The first look of the new Wayo Manyara Green Camp. To say we are pleased would be an understatement.

Locally handcrafted with every part of this build being designed by our in-house team. Reclaimed wood from our retired camp. Nothing imported - only celebrating the beauty of Tanzania and its truly skilled people.

Wayo Manyara Green Camp is nestled deep inside Manyara National Park in Tanzania. It redefines Manyara as an experience offering waterfalls within the camp with visiting elephants in the dry seasons, canoe safaris nearby, night game drives, lake shore walks, rift valley hikes. It makes a perfect first safari stop enroute to Ngorongoro and Serengeti in the Northern Tanzania circuit.

Remote stillness. No cars. No camps. Just you at Wayo Trekking Camp.

Have you ever wondered what it must have been like for those first safari guests camping in the Serengeti for the first time? You don’t need to wonder - we can show you.

We reach out to the areas which aren’t in the main tourist zones. Away from roads and away from the other camps. At night, the only lights you can see are the sweeping galaxies overhead.

Trekking camp is designed to provide an escape with feet on the ground. It is a private experience, exclusive to your group only, so if you want to walk two hours a day and spend the rest of the time relaxing in camp then you can. If you want to trek for 6 hours to a new site in the Serengeti and the crew moves the camp then we can.

Our agenda is about you and about sharing this incredibly, wild experience - nothing else.

You won’t find Wayo Trekking Camp on any public online availability charts - agents and clients can only book this through our experienced team. For a bespoke quote, please contact [email protected].

Minimum number of nights is 2 and we can run this experience for anywhere up to 14 days in the bush. We can also add this onto an existing itinerary for those wanting to add a little more wild to a safari experience.

SPOT THE CROC!

Flashback to the month of October. It was late in the afternoon and we wanted to catch the river before we left the Northern part of the Serengeti. We set off from Wayo Serengeti Green Camp and headed along the stretch of the Mara River - waters glinting in the lowering sun.

So many crossings suddenly happened in such a small space of time. This crossing was one of three within an hour of driving along the banks. The water turned from calm to boiling in seconds as the herds crashed through; thrilling but also obviously had a nasty turn for one. The balance of the Serengeti’s ecosystem and its demands between the famine and the feast for these animals, is stark and humbling.

The regular visitors at Wayo Manyara Green Camp this evening - herds of beautiful elephants drinking at the falls in camp.

Described by experienced safari-goers as one of the best bush camps in Africa, this little camp really blows experience out of the water. Canoeing, night game drives, walks, waterfalls and elephants at sundowners.

It holds a special place in our hearts at Wayo Africa and now the hearts of so many of our wonderful returning guests!

WAYO WALKING CAMP HAS HAD A LITTLE LIFT!!

Our Walking Camp very much sits at the heart of what makes Wayo Africa special.

It focusses on being on the ground and in the heart of the wild. Game drives are only possible when camp is located in Central Serengeti in the quieter months. We don't game drive from this camp during high-season; it's walking safaris only. This allows you to retreat away from other tourists in an otherwise busy landscape and to be calmly within nature, away from game drive tracks and vehicles.

New for this season is a stunning large stretch-tent mess areas with quirky and innovative touches to bring the outside, inside. Our camp still benefits from our six immersive star-tents which allows you to take in all the sights and the sounds of the Serengeti during your stay. These have also had an understated interiors lift to make the new level of comfort from Serengeti Green Camp continue to run through the Wayo Walking camp experience, but not to retract away from the beautiful simplicity of this small intimate camp.

OUR NEW SERENGETI GREEN CAMP - OPENS JUNE!…but it’s a camp with a twist…

We have been dreaming about this new camp for many years. We wanted to present a concept which can demonstrate our true commitment to sustainable tourism; crafted carefully and respectfully presented.

We decided to challenge ourselves to build all guest rooms and mess areas solely in Tanzania, using local Tanzanian trades and making sure that the investment and celebration of skills starts and finishes in our wonderful country. Coming to the end of this project, we are delighted that we have been able to fulfil our commitment.

Interiors have been carefully sourced with help of anthropologists and fresh-to-the-field designers; celebrating cultural groups and encouraging the development of local craftsmanship whilst bringing an innovative interior flair and high-level of comfort.

Our new Wayo Serengeti Green Camp features our newly designed tents sewn by local teams located on the boundary of Arusha National Park. The offering further extends our mesh-sides to be 180 degrees creating a picture-window frontage and taking the inside-outside experience to another level. Encased in a beautiful stretch canvas overhead, tents sensitively blend into the landscape whilst also providing shade and privacy. There remains an ensuite bathroom which is now enclosed and covered with low-flush toilets and bucket showers.

The guest experience is focussed around immersing guests in both the feeling of being in the wilds of the parks whilst also appreciating the local craftsmanship. Bed panels made from banana leaves in Mto Wa Mbu - local to our activity centre. Maasai belted cushions, Chagga cup chandeliers, and countless other celebrations. Each sensitively placed to incite interest and provide exceptional comfort.

Safe to say…we’re pretty pleased! But watch this space…this camp has even more up its sleeve!

Enjoying a few days trekking in the Southern Serengeti. Afternoon thundershowers are keeping it green and the animals happy. The green season is a great time to be in the parks. The migration is on the short grass plains. Thousands of baby wildebeest and predators on every rock!

There are some big priorities that we had to decide on for 2021 and 2022 following COVID. Guide training was at the top!

A well-trained guide not only creates the magic for a safari but training empowers people through knowledge and ensures protection of these beautiful regions for the future.

WAYO guides and TANAPA Rangers spent 3 weeks on joint bush walking trainings at our walking camp in Olbaye, in Kusini and in Tarangire NP. The best way to work together, is to train together!

Our camps are light and quiet which means we are usually surrounded by a host of wildlife 90% of the time with exceptional game viewing on our doorstep. Without generators and excessive use of water, the camp sits sensitively and respectfully in this beautiful part of the world. Our walking camp seen here (with the option of rolling away the fly sheet to reveal a fully-mesh sides and roof) is set deep in very remote areas of the Serengeti. Wayo Africa camp experiences are peaceful and about reconnecting to the true African experience whilst enjoying time together around the camp fire.
