Tarangire national park has some of the highest population density of elephants as compared to anywhere in Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and distinctive location to visit.

Located just a few hours drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for people travelling through the northern safari circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and the wildlife is allowed to move freely throughout.

Maundi crater is an extinct and small-sized depression that was an outcome of Mount Kilimanjaro's volcanic activity. This crater is located near Mandara huts campsite on the slopes of the mountain. It can be reached on a day hike

There is little vegetation at the crater as volcanic soil has hindered any growth of plants inside the depression. On a clear sky it provided a good view of the mountain.

Standing 81.5 metres (approximately 267 feet) tall, the giant – Entandrophragma excelsum – belongs to the mahogany family. The tree is also ancient, estimated to be between 500 and 600 years old.

It's the tallest tree in Africa, there may be even larger trees in Africa, too. Although the continent is not known for producing arboreal giants, findings like this one suggest that other massive specimens – overlooked due to a shortage of research efforts – could be out there. In the case of Mount Kilimanjaro, for example, high temperatures, heavy precipitation and nutrient-dense volcanic soil offer the perfect conditions for primeval trees.

There is a toll plaza for controlling and charging of vehicles passing through the bridge.

The bridge was completed on April 19, 2016. When officially inaugurating the bridge, Tanzanian President John Magufuli renamed it from the Kigamboni Bridge to the Nyerere Bridge, in honor of the country's founding father, Julius Nyerere.
