The Southern Serengeti is a part of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous wildlife reserves in the world. This region is known for its stunning landscapes, vast savannas, and high concentration of wildlife, especially during the annual Great Migration. The Southern Serengeti is particularly significant for its short-grass plains, which are a prime grazing area for wildebeest, zebra, and other herbivores. The predators, including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, follow the herds, making this area a hotspot for safaris.

The Southern Serengeti also sees the calving season for wildebeest (usually around January to March), which attracts a surge of predators and offers some of the most dramatic wildlife viewing experiences in Africa. The area is less crowded than other parts of the Serengeti, such as the central Serengeti, providing a more serene and intimate experience with nature.

This region is known for its vast, open plains, dotted with acacia trees, and is home to some of the most critical stages of the migration cycle, including calving season.

Key Features of the Southern Serengeti:
1. The Great Migration: Between December and March, the Southern Serengeti is one of the best places to witness the migration. During this time, over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with large numbers of zebras and gazelles, give birth to their young, creating a scene of abundant wildlife activity. This makes it a hotspot for predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas that take advantage of the abundance of newborns.

2. Calving Season: The Ndutu area in particular is known for the calving season. Thousands of wildebeest give birth, attracting numerous predators and scavengers. Lake Manyara is a shallow, alkaline lake located in northern Tanzania, part of the East African Rift Valley.
