Margherita said ‘We relied entirely on this local agency to organise a week to climb Kilimanjaro and a week of safari. They proved to be highly professional, everything was planned and taken care of in detail. Expert and professional guides with a high level of English. High level accommodation, splendid locations within the parks during the safari and always excellent food. The care of the guides on Kilimanjaro regarding the state of acclimatisation and our general physical condition was also important.‘

5 Days Volcanoes National Park Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1 – Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our tours representative and transferred to your hotel.
•
Day 2 – Kigali – Volcanoes National Park
Starting with a City Tour of Kigali learn about the history of Rwanda dating back centuries. Visit the old Kigali and the craft centres followed by the genocide memorial site. After lunch in Kigali depart to Ruhengeri. Ruhengeri is the base for Gorilla trekking and a town with great views of the surrounding volcanoes.

Day 3 – Volcanoes National Park – Golden Monkey Trek
•
Depart from your lodge early morning with your guide to the National Park headquarters and embark on the ‘Golden Monkey’ trek. Lunch served back at the lodge followed by a leisurely afternoon.
•
Day 4 – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek
An early start to reach the Volcanoes National Park. There are a total of 88 gorilla permits available each day with a maximum of eight trekkers visiting any one group. Trekking can take from two to six or more hours if the gorillas move before the park rangers locate them the next morning. The guides stop frequently to allow trekkers a chance to rest and take photos along the way. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical hour as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting; raising their young. Coming face to face with a giant silverback must truly be one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth! After the trek, rejoin your driver Guide for a transfer to your lodge for lunch. Afternoon, enjoy a visit of the spectacular and scenic Twin Lakes – Bulera and Ruhondo.

Day 5 – Depart
After breakfast, depart from foothills of the volcanoes and drive on a scenic drive to Kigali. Before being safely transferred back to the airport by our team for your flight home.

Just like Ben and Emily who enjoyed an eight day honeymoon with our team in Tanzania. Emily said ‘Our guide definitely had an amazing sense for finding animals and he never rushed us, we could spend as long as we wanted watching the animals. With names corresponding to the Big Five but much much smaller in size this is an equally impress little group of creatures that with the help of an excellent African Traits guide you have a chance of spotting on your safari…

The leopard tortoise 🐢 with gold and black patterns similar to a leopard these solitary creatures can be found wandering along the side of the road.
•
The buffalo weaver 🪶 there are three species of this bird all of which can be found in Tanzania. They are easily found due to their loud sound although only around 10 inches in size!
•
Rhinoceros beetle 🪲 the largest species of beetle in the world with a horn similar to a Rhino used to dig for food. The rhino beetle is one of the strongest animals in the world able to carry 850 times its own weight.
•
Elephant shrew 🐁 only found in Africa these timid little insect eating creatures are named after their trunk like noses. There are 18 known species and the gray-faced sengi is an endangered species found only in Tanzania.
•
Ant lion 🐜 the smallest of the ‘Little Five’ and not an ant or a lion! With aggressive behaviour like a lion and a diet of ants this insect when fully grown resembles a dragonfly following a metamorphosis similar to a caterpillar.

Just like Steve and his friends who enjoyed a three day Safari to Tanzania with our team. Steve said ‘Where do I start. First of all the customer service was second to none. We had organised a 4 day safari but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cut it down to 3 days the day before our safari. African traits was extremely accomodating made everything work. Ben our safari guide was one of the most polite, educated, caring guides I have ever had (this is my 3rd safari). In tough conditions with the rain we didn’t miss a thing seeing more lions than ever before and the whole big 5. I could not recommend this company enough and shall I do another safari it will be with them again!!!‘
