Jag ivrar ju inte för flygresor nu för tiden MEN om du ändå funderar på en Safari i Östafrika så kan jag tipsa om en superbra guide - Eddy Molell i Tanzania: Planning a safari to Tanzania? I works in all National Parks in Tanzania such as the oldest National Park Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Great enthusiastic guiding with a intimate knowledge of the bush help get you up close and personal with all that Tanzania has to offer. You are warmly Welcome.

Good morning from Tarangire National Park!! We had a lion roaring around our tent last night and I was laying there wondering if it had the ability to rip down our tent. I’m still here don’t worry 😂😂

This one is very special, watch the videos if you can. We went to a Maasai village today and were welcomed by a local tribe right outside the Serengeti. They invited us to do the welcome dance with them, we went into their huts and saw where they slept, learned how they make fire and saw the little children in their kinder school. They were so unbelievably precious. They all wanted to fist bump and showed us how they can count. It was a surreal experience to be in a tribal village and welcomed by them and see how they live every day. We purchased a few items because that is how they survive and purchase the goods they need lime water and beads to make jewelry. They like you to “negotiate “ with them for the best price. We passed through an area where the first human remains were found. Did you all know that the first humans came from Africa? They migrated to the other regions after their brains became larger and they evvolved. They call the first human Lucy. We then went to the Serengeti, the central part is very dry and there are very few animals in this area because it’s the dry season. We did however, see a leopard that had killed a zebra and pulled it up into a tree (clearly a very strong animal). You have to look at the left of the leopard up above him. Kinda getting sick of box lunches even though they put a lot of choices in there. Anyone for a cucumber hamburger? Peanuts are always in there and two choices of fruits, mango juice always, meat sandwich is usually chicken with tomato ketchup and mustard, but no complaining, I loved the village, It has been the highlight of this trip for me.

Today is Sunday and it is also Ngorongoro day. It is a very large crater/caldera in Africa, 102 square miles. There is a salt lake at the bottom where pink flamingos hang out and in the green grassy area the cutest hippos swim in the fresh water. We saw 2 hyaena chasing small antelope around and one took a swim in the salt lake trying to catch himself a flamingo. We saw that really ugly bird again, he is bald and reminds me of the vultures in the jungle book. I made a mistake this morning and brushed my teeth at the farmhouse from last night and I had a bad tummy all day. Note to self, use bottled water wherever you are to brush teeth no matter how beautiful and nice the accommodations are. I do have to give a shout out to our tour company Good Earth Tours. I had no idea what to expect from the lodges we would stay at and they have all been *****5 star. Everything is perfect and we are constantly surprised by each new place. I think it could be questionable based on the tour company but everything has been amazing. Also Edward Mollel has been the best guide to have. He is so knowledgeable about where we are going and is always letting us go at our own pace rather than pushing us to see the next thing. He did really want us to see another rhino today, which do exist here but there are only about 50 in the caldera and he made it happen. It was a black rhino having himself some lunch. We also saw Mufassa and Sarabi taking an afternoon nap. It was a spectacular day, again. Look at that cool tree with the dead moss hanging down, it has eyes. And here is the view from our room.

Today is Saturday and we left the tents in the park this morning to travel to Ngorongoro. Along the way we stopped at Manyara National park and came across some baboons that were darling until they climbed on our jeep and scared the s**t out of me. It is a smaller park that reminded me of the jungle book. It was lush with tall trees and very thick green bushes. We then stopped at an African museum where I found some 15th century door k***s. As Hannah likes to say “they were LIT”. The art in the museum was very cool and really showed the culture of the tribes here. We are now at an organic farmhouse which is where I really want to stay. The flowers are stunning and that big purple tree is called a yuckarunda. It’s so beautiful. We are going on a coffee tour around the grounds (pun) in a few minutes and tomorrow will head to the crater to see more rhinos. I seriously need a hair do.

Monday was an amazing first day of the many game drives we will have. We are in Mkomazi National Park and we still don’t have our luggage 😭 and we are washing our underwear nightly. 😷 However, we saw 3 of the big 5 today. A lioness🦁, buffalo 🐃 and elephant 🐘. We will hopefully see rhinos 🦏 in the morning and saw sooo many giraffes 🦒. They are so beautiful and such graceful animals. The tent we are sleeping in is pretty cool and is really glamping not camping. it’s weird sleeping in a safari park with zebras and antelope walking around us. It’s very dry here so the big animals stay down by the water in the evening. The poverty in Africa is heartbreaking. People have no electricity and have a curtain as their front door. You can’t drink the tap water in Tanzania because it will make you sick. People sell fruits and vegetables to try to make money on the side of the road and motorcyclists are the local taxis. So much culture to take in. It will be an early morning so I need to say goodnight, more to come for the Jelsma’s experience in Africa tomorrow.

Today we hiked up Mt. Kilimanjaro, well sort of. It takes 19 hours to hike to the top which is the highest mountain in the world. People stay for 6 days typically and have food and supplies brought up by locals that also have to hike it. 🙄🙄🙄 We made it uphill 8 miles (no snow and we did have shoes on) 😩and Hannah and I kinda cried. It was the hardest thing I’ve done in a long time both physically and mentally. We still don’t have our luggage 🧳 and you can rent shoes for the hike so I got these babies with some killer socks. It looks like I have kankels. Tomorrow, hopefully we will get our luggage and head to Komazi to start our tours. We are all exhausted so we will catch you tomorrow friends.

Tanzania is the place where the concept of a wildlife safari was born, well known as home to the Big 5 species.
