The difference between a black rhino and a white rhino has nothing to do with their actual colour... In the beginning colour was at play, but only in a roundabout, backward way. It is believed 'white' stems from the translation of the Dutch word of a white colour, and 'black' also stems from a colour misconception as in from a distance they looked black, but only had the darker colour as they rolled in mud.

* The clearest difference between the two is in the muzzles -- the white rhino has a wide and flat muzzle; while the black has a narrower and pointed muzzle. This is due to the food they eat -- the white is a grazer; while the black is a browser.

Let us clear something up that many, especially guides are asked about and most get it wrong. Here is the truth --

Mating lions (males).
Many who see or hear about it think it is actually a sexual encounter. It is not.

Lions are extremely affectionate towards one another and we might think the lion rubbing and nuzzling another lion and not a lioness is, for lack of a better word, gay...
He's not. For many animals this is perfectly natural.

This behaviour is often seen as a way of asserting dominance over another male -- letting the other male know this 'mating' lion is more of a boss than the lion he is mounting. That is one of the reasons, and the other is that they are both strengthening the bonds between them.

When trying to quickly find a plausible answer, humans tend to make things up for it to make sense instead of saying, 'I do not know, but will find out', but opt to ignore common sense and add nonsense -- like 'demons' cause this, and similar misguided reasons.

If you watch a lion doing the real thing with a lioness, he is with the lioness for days. He guards her and mates with her often, and when the deed is done there is the customary snarling because there is real pe*******on and withdrawal. His p***s is barbed, so it hurts the lioness a little as he withdraws. She snarls, and he reacts by snarling back -- this does not happen with lions -- there is no violent reaction so the mating is not real.

WHY DO ANIMALS FORM SOCIAL GROUPS?
By Abdulhamid Ibrahim Saikpai

Animals in all classes and families live naturally in their habitat with functional and behavioural roles. All of these are adaptations to live comfortably within species and across species. But most importantly, these characters/traits displayed are controlled by innate/inborn responses. Learned behaviour is influenced by the environment.

Although some animals are solitary (roam alone), some are known to form organized social structures for their survival. In the unified structure, each member plays a significant role to achieve the aim of the group. Such social structures, for example are; a pack of wolves, pride of lions, a herd of antelopes, a troop of baboons, and a convocation of eagles, among others.

The wolves and lions hunt large antelopes in a group to be successful. The group targets a prey and attack from all angles to confuse and kill it. Doves are also gregarious, as they feed in groups.

Social groups are also formed to protect prey from predators. For instance, Zebra and the antelopes fight back at predators in a group. They use their horns, in the zebra's case -- hooves and teeth, to protect and defend the herd.

Furthermore, the social structure is a circle for the care and training of the young to learn basic values in the habitat. Elephants and lions use this to teach their offsprings both feeding and breeding ecology.
* A herd of zebras can also be called a zeal or dazzle of zebras.

Plains or common zebras are found just about everywhere in sub-Saharan Africa -- usually not found in deserts, permanent wetlands or dense rain forests.

The plains zebra found in the Northern parts of sub-Saharan Africa have 'shadow' stripes on their legs (this is when scattering of dark - black, hairs are found between the black stripes). This 'shadow' is usually not found on the plains zebra in the Southern parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
