Jongomero river starts flowing
What a beautiful sight as the Jongomero river starts flowing once again! For most part of the year this river is dry. After the first rains the river will flow for a short while. It is a special treat for guests visiting us during this time.

Tucked in a palm grove on the shores of the magnificent Lake Nzerakera, Siwandu safari camp is a nature lover's paradise! Visitors here can expect to marvel at an incredible array of birdlife - with more than 400 species documented in the area - as well as regular visits from vast herds of elephant and buffalo looking to quench their thirst in the life-giving waters. Each evening, as dusk begins to fall, the hippos awaken with a chorus of honking calls, announcing their imminent departure to seek out their nightly meal of succulent grass. Truly, Siwandu is an experience not to be missed!

Have you ever wondered why buffalo are one of the Big Five?
Traditionally the Big Five are the five most dangerous animals to encounter on foot and the buffalo's infamous cranky attitude means they are actually more dangerous than the much larger giraffe or hippo. It's always a thrilling experience to get up close with the enormous herds of buffalo that thrive in this vast wilderness area in the Ruaha National Park!

Little elephant running towards mom
How incredibly adorable it is to watch this little elephant that realises that mom is ahead and it’s time to run to get back to her quicker! We watched this lovely scene unfolding on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, from our pontoon boat on the lake. An afternoon boating safari is one of the highlights of staying at Siwandu in the Nyerere National Park.

Watch the video all the way to see this hippo doing a playful belly roll in the water!
This video was taken during a sunset water safari on Lake Nzerakera at Siwandu. Watching wildlife from the comfort of a sturdy pontoon boat is the ideal way to explore the stunning landscape from a completely different perspective.

The best breakfast is a bush breakfast 😁
At Jongomero we make sure you get as close as possible to nature all the time. There is nothing better than arriving here in the middle of the bush and enjoying a delicious freshly-prepared breakfast in this incredible setting.

With a park the size of Switzerland with no fences, it’s been an amazing experience to see these animals roam free in the wild.
Huge thanks to the team @selous_safari and our amazing guides Joseph and Apollo for showing us around your beautiful country Tanzania 🇹🇿
