had the honor of organizing the second of three trips in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) event series, titled “Understanding the Slave Trade in Tanzania.” Members of the community joined us for a guided tour of Bagamoyo, where participants delved into the historical roots of the slave trade in Tanzania.

This event aligns with the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to foster empathy and promote open dialogues on topics of race, inequality, and social justice. The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam remains committed to supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives within the U.S. Mission community in Tanzania.

World Migratory Bird Day, observed on the second Saturdays of May and October, raises awareness of the challenges migratory birds face and encourages global conservation efforts. Birds can travel between 15 to 600 miles a day, with some flying as high as 30,000 feet, like the bar-headed goose. Hawks, swifts, and waterfowl migrate by day, while many songbirds travel at night to avoid predators. 🦆
