The Friends of Usambara Society is a grassroots organization that uses sustainable tourism to conserve the nature and culture of the Usambara Mountains region. Our guides are professionally trained, certified, and several have diplomas in Tourism Travel A

gency management. They all adopt and implement a tour guide code of conduct and ethics, speak very good English, and are familiar with the area. Our friendly and reliable guides can tell you many stories about the history, daily life, and local cultures of the West Usambara peoples.

FoU is widely known for its popular Cultural Tourism Program, which apparently attracts hundreds of tourists annually and serves as an appendage for generating resources needed for sustaining FoU’s core organizational activities including community based projects. FoU is directly involved in community-based environmental awareness creation and education campaign, biodiversity conservation, as well as combating desertification and promotion of sustainable forestry in an effort to slow global climate change
