Marangu route, better known as the "Coca Cola" Route, is by far the easiest of all the Kilimanjaro routes ( bearing in mind that the word "easy " is relative ).

The Marangu Route is definitely an interesting and challenging mountain climbing route of at least five days and, along with the Machame Route, it has the highest number of climbers by percentage.

The Marangu route is definitely an interesting and challenging mountain climbing route of at least five days and, along with the Machame Route, it has the highest number of climbers by percentage.

In 2013, 29% of climbers on Kilimanjaro chose the Marangu route compared to 40% who chose to go via Machame.

This is likely because most climbers underestimate it due to its reputation as being ''easy."

Therefore, it makes sense to add in an optional acclimatization day (6day route) at the elevation of the Horombo Hut (3,725 m/12,221 ft.) And add in, for example, a day visit to the Zebra Rocks (approx. 4,350m/14,270ft.)

The Marangu Route, like all other Routes, must be regarded with due respect and should only be attempted with proper training.

Regardless of which Route you choose, the elevation remains the same and that is actually the breaking point of any climb on Kilimanjaro.

From here on, a dusty trail leads downhill over gravel and sand through a rocky high moor, past small streams and rock meadows, on which small collections of tree groundsels can be found .

The trail continues uphill and downhill over stones and rocky labs for another 2-3 hours until (Karanga camp) 4,250m /13,944ft.

Where as a rule the lunch break takes place .

The air is thinner, your pulse is faster and, as in the previous days, headache governs the thoughts of many climbers.

After a good 2 hours you will reach Karanga Camp.

As always, the cook is faster and by the time you arrive, he has prepared a warm meal.

In good weather you will have an excellent view of the grand , icy slopes of the Rebmann Glacier on the south-eastern slopes of Kibo.

Did you know when you climb Mount kilimanjaro the reward is not just to stand on the famous highest peak in Africa, but in the way you will be enjoying the beautiful rainforest, alpine desert, moorland without forgetting the breathtaking scenery of Northern Tanzania and the neighboring country Kenya.

Mountain kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the famous free-standing mountain in the world. Free-standing means that kilimanjaro is not part of mountain range. Mountain kilimanjaro peak is called Uhuru peak (meaning freedom peak) and it stands at 5,895 m above sea level. The ascent is flatter now, but also noticeably rockier than on the scree slope. Surefootedness is required, especially when there is seasonal snow resulting in slippery surface. A little further to the south - west, you will pass the gigantic Rebman Glacier with its cathedral like ice formations that light up with the full spectrum of colors in the morning sunshine from fiery red to gleaming orange, all the way to ice cold blue. You continue over dry, barren terrain on a moderate ascent past the final waypoint, Hans Meyer point (5,888 m/19,318 ft). From here you can soon see the summit sign to Uhuru Peak the famous peak in the distance at 5,895 m /19,341 ft.

The final stage of your kilimanjaro climb is not particularly difficult. It leads downhill almost entirely on well-built forest trails. In some places there are stable, wooden bridges over the rivers of water flowing down from the glaciers of Kilimanjaro, which are ideal for final photos of the trip.
Right outside of the camp you'll descend ever deeper into the lush rainforest belt, which dominates the second half of this trail.

Well-rested, this day begins with the ``tip ceremony`` after a sufficient breakfast. All the individuals of your support team will gather for a group photo and to receive the long awaited tip. The next job already awaits the porters down in the valley.

Early afternoon you will reach at the checkout gate, you can proudly enter your name in the summit record book, and you will receive your certificate from your guide Mr jumptokili or Aggrey👏

After an early rising, one is rewarded with views across to Mt. Meru and over the valleys between Moshi and Arusha. In good weather even Kibo shows itself in all its glory and icy robes. It is a magnificent sight, which casts anticipation onto the coming day! Well - fed at breakfast and supplied with adequate provisions and water (at least three liters per day) the third stage begins.

This day serves to improve your acclimatization. You will still knock back over 1,300 m /4,265 ft. altogether in hiking up and down, past the Lova Tower 4,600m , but you will sleep only 100m/330ft higher than the day before. This might be frustrating but it makes a lot of sense. There are two variations to choose from:

Alternative A is the path in the direction of the Lava Tower over a sand, black Lava desert with large boulders. Shortly after the Lava Tower the trails of the southern Circuit divide. One path head to the east towards the Western Breach (climbing route) and the other, southwards down to Barranco.

Alternative B is a so-called shortcut that goes from Shira camp directly to Barranco camp. After about 1.5 hours of walking through the moorland the original Machame Route meets up again from above.

Mt. Kilimanjaro has 3 volcanic cones and is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 meters above sea level. This Marangu route is the most popular and the easiest route. It is gradual and steady therefore making it less painful on the trek. It also offers a shorter acclimatization period. This route is also known as the coca cola route as its accommodation is in the huts, which also serves beverages. The trek begins in the south east of the mountain at Marangu gate & the descent takes the same route. It has the best trail in the rain forest combined with and great views of the Mawenzi. It is preferred by those want to spend less time on the mountain & do not mind crowds.
