Bananas: Facts, Benefits and Nutrition.
(WHAT EATING BANANAS CAN DO FOR YOU):

1.Bananas are low in calories and have no fat, no sodium, and no cholesterol. They contain vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and vitamin B6.

2.Bananas may be considered a mood enhancer because it contains the amino acid, tryptophan and Vitamin B6 that helps the body produce serotonin.

3.Research shows that eating bananas may lower the risk of heart attacks, blood pressure, strokes, and protect heart health due to high potassium and low salt content as well as decrease the risk of getting some cancers.

4.Bananas are the only fruit that contains the amino acid tryptophan plus vitamin B6. They help your body produce serotonin—a natural substance that alleviates depression.

5.The inside of a banana peel can help relieve itching and inflammation, such as from bug bit or poison ivy.

6.Bananas are great pre-workout snacks because they are loaded with potassium that aids in maintaining nerve and muscle function during work outs.

Bonus Fact! Bananas are an ideal prebiotic because of their high fiber content. If you need a refresher on prebiotics, they are types of fiber that stimulate the microorganisms in your digestive tract and are essential for fueling probiotics. Studies have shown that eating bananas, in particular, can increase the amount of the good bifidobacterial in your gut.

Curious Facts About Giraffes with IInquisitive Africa
The giraffe is a large African hoofed mammal belonging to the genus Giraffa. It is the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant on Earth. Traditionally, giraffes have been thought of as one species, Giraffa camelopardalis, with nine subspecies.

1. Giraffes are found in the dry savannahs of Africa, where they roam among the open plains and woodlands.

2. Female giraffes give birth standing up. The result? Newborns are welcomed to the world with a 1.5m drop to the ground! Ouch! But these infants are quick to get on their feet – within 30 minutes they are standing, and only hours later they”re able to run with their mothers.

3. Well known for their long necks, these gentle giants are the world’s tallest living land animals. An adult male can grow to around 5.5m – that’s taller than three adult humans!

4. A giraffe’s height is helpful for keeping a look out for predators, such as lions and hyenas. Their excellent eyesight allows them to spot hungry beasts from far away, too.

5. Giraffe are already extinct in at least seven countries in Africa.

6. Just like human fingerprints, no two giraffes have the same coat pattern.

7. Giraffe feet are the size of a dinner plate with a diameter of 30 cm.

8. Giraffe tongues are bluish-purple and between 45 and 50 cm long.

9. The giraffe is the tallest mammal in the world. Even newborn giraffe are taller than most humans.

10. In some populations, over 50% of all giraffe calves do not survive their first year.

11. A giraffe’s neck is too short to reach the ground. To drink, giraffe first have to splay their forelegs and/or bend their knees, and only then can they lower their necks to reach the surface of the water.

12. Giraffe only drink once every few days. Even when water is readily available, this is because they get most of their water from their leafy meals, and only need to drink once every few days.

13. To protect the giraffe’s brain from sudden changes in blood pressure when it drinks, the jugular veins have incredibly elastic walls and large one-way valves that allow the veins to expand significantly and prevent the blood from flowing back to the brain when the giraffe’s head is lowered.

14. Alternatively, to help fight gravity when blood returns to the heart from a giraffe’s feet, their blood vessels are thickly walled and muscled, and the skin on the legs is so tight it acts like giant compression socks. These unique adaptations have been studied by scientists at NASA to get inspiration for human space suits.

15. A giraffe heart weighs approximately 11 kilograms (almost 25 pounds) with an average resting heart rate of 40-90 beats per minute. While people thought that the giraffe had a larger heart compared to other mammals to pump blood around its body, this is not true. Rather the giraffe’s heart has a thicker muscle on the left side (ventricle) of the heart so it can generate enough force to fight gravity.

16. Giraffes are very social animals and roam around in groups. These groups, called towers, typically have around 15 members led by an adult male. The other members are females and young males.

Interesting Facts About Ostriches – Swift Runners of the Plains

Ostriches are probably one of the strangest birds in the African wilderness.

Most people have heard that an ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. Here are other interesting facts about these odd birds that you may not know:
1. Scientific name: Struthio camelus
2. Ostriches have three stomachs.
3. Ostriches are the fast runners of any birds or other two-legged animal and can sprint at over 70 km/hr, covering up to 5m in a single stride
4. This brilliant bird’s strong legs don’t only carry the ostrich where it wants to go – they’re super effective when it comes to self-defense. If an ostrich is cornered by a hungry predator, such as a lion, cheetah, leopard or hyena, it will kick with a force powerful enough to kill!
5. Ostriches are mainly vegetarian, eating roots, leaves, flowers and seeds. But they will also eat insects, lizards and other small creatures, too.
6. Unlike all other living birds, the ostrich secretes urine separately from faeces
7. Ostriches eggs they’re the largest eggs in the world, averaging around 15cm long and weighing up to a mega 1.5kg!
8. Ancient Romans had a recipe for Ostrich stew. That’s more than 1000 years ago.
9.Males and females have different colored feathers – males sport black plumage with a white tail, and females are mostly brown.
10. Breeding colors: When ready to mate the male ostrich’s, legs turn deep red to show the females and other males that they are ready for action.
