Seeing an while diving in is an unforgettable experience! These intelligent and elusive creatures are often found hiding in coral crevices, camouflaging themselves with remarkable skill. Octopuses in Zanzibar's warm waters can change colour and texture to blend with their surroundings, making spotting one a special treat for divers.

In Zanzibar, diving sites like Mnemba Atoll, Tumbatu Island, and the waters around Stone Town offer excellent opportunities to encounter a variety of marine life, including octopuses. If you're lucky, you might see them moving gracefully through the water, using their arms to explore their environment or hunt for prey.

A few facts on , straight from

Zanzibar, is an island in the Indian Ocean, lying 22 miles (35 km) off the coast of east-central Africa. In 1964 Zanzibar, together with Pemba Island and some other smaller islands, joined with Tanganyika on the mainland to form the United Republic of Tanzania. The island area is 600 square miles (1,554 square km). Pop. (2007 est.) 713,000.

The general impression of Zanzibar when approached from the mainland is of a long, low island with small ridges along its central north–south axis. Coconut palms and other vegetation cover the land surface. It is 53 miles (85 km) at its greatest length and 24 miles (39 km) broad. The highest point of the central ridge system is Masingini, 390 feet (119 m) above sea level. Higher ground is gently undulating and gives rise to a few small rivers, which flow west to the sea or disappear in the coral country.

This week was World Dolphin Day.

World Dolphin Day, celebrated on 12 September, brings focus to how our daily actions can harm dolphins both directly and indirectly. Whether through discarded plastics that pollute the ocean or unsustainable fishing practices, human influence on marine life is significant.

We are fortunate to have dolphins around our island, and our divers often encounter them on their dives or travelling between dive sites. They are socially skilled, intelligent, agile, joyful, and playful creatures that share many emotional similarities with humans and always a joy to watch.
