Scaling Kilimanjaro at 70: A Journey to the Roof of Africa

Ray Kleiner from Milan, Italy embarked on an adventure that would push him to the limits of endurance and determination. At the age of 70, he led a small group on a quest to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, standing at a majestic 5,895 meters above sea level.
As an avid mountain biker this was his very first attempt at anything like this.

This climb was dedicated to the memory of my former colleague, Maurizio Citati, making it even more significant. As I reached the summit, tears streamed down my face—both from the intense emotion and the exhaustion of the journey. My head was spinning, but my heart was content.

This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the expert guidance and support of Kili footprints, a local Tanzanian company based in Moshi. Led by our guide Jackson Mmari, Kili Footprints ensured that our adventure was not only safe but also unforgettable, even life changing. The dedication, knowledge, and encouragement were instrumental in making this dream become a reality.

For anyone considering a climb up Kilimanjaro, in particular for those who think age might be a barrier, I can confidently say that with the right preparation and the right team, the summit is within your reach.
