They are often seen nipping in to steal a morsel from Lions on a kill. Mainly nocturnal but seen regularly during the day, this handsome animal has a call to remember. The Jackals feeds on small mammals, reptiles, birds, eggs, carrion and fruit. They do scavenge but are hunters in their own right.

The ngorongoro conservation area is host to the famous great migration including wildebeest, zebras and gazelle where move through the area from the south. In June the same number moves back to the north

The Ngorongoro crater is also the world's largest inactive caldera. The crater floor covers about 260 square kilometers and is the crater is about 600 meters deep. Due to the collapse of an active volcano over 2 million years ago, the Ngorongoro crater was formed.

Animals in Ngorongoro were just trapped after descending down to the crater and could not come out again and this made them multiply within the crater. Currently all the African big 5 can be seen in Ngorongoro crater like the black Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Buffalos and Leopards

The huts are usually circular or oval shaped. The first step is to build the frame which is done by fixing gathered timber poles into the ground. Thereafter, the poles are interlaced with a lattice of smaller branches which are then plastered with a mixture of water, mud, cow dung and even urine.

Typical materials used in the construction of Maasai huts, or Bomba, are cow dung, mud, sticks, grass, urine and ash. The walls are made of these materials and the roof can be made from almost anything: sticks, reeds, tin or anything that will lay flat.

A boma is a homestead headed by one male, consisting of houses for each of his wives and their children. Maasai are polygamous, and every Maasai woman builds her hut in her husband's boma.

Olduvai is a misspelling of Oldupai, a Maasai word for a wild sisal plant that grows in the area.
