Tanzania is an excellent destination for birders. Besides Lake Manyara and Arusha National Parks which are famous for water birds and other savannah and forest species, all the game parks in Tanzania have an amazing array of birdlife including Eurasian migrants.

The most interesting part is that the birdlife may vary from park to park depending on habitats providing a richer viewing experience to the birder.

It may be useful to learn that over 1,130 different species of birds have been recorded in Tanzania – the largest number in Africa second only to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area spans vast expanses of highland plains, savanna, savanna woodlands and forests.

Established in 1959 as a multiple land use area, with wildlife coexisting with semi-nomadic Maasai pastoralists practicing traditional livestock grazing, it includes the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest caldera.

The property has global importance for biodiversity conservation due to the presence of globally threatened species, the density of wildlife inhabiting the area, and the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and other animals into the northern plains.

Extensive archaeological research has also yielded a long sequence of evidence of human evolution and human-environment dynamics, including early hominid footprints dating back 3.6 million years.

The easterly routes, Marangu, Mweka, Loitokitok and Rongai all converge west of the saddle near Gillman Point, between the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo.

Kibo crater is roughly circular with an inner cone extending to 5,800 m, (100 m lower than the summit at Uhuru Peak).

4 Days, 3 Nights Wildlife Safari (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro)

DAY 1: Leave moshi early morning and drive to Tarangire National Park for day game viewing. Then drive Camp site / Lodge for dinner and overnight .

DAY 2: After breakfast drive to Serengeti with game en-route, enjoy sunset game drive at Seronera River. Thereafter drive to Camp site / Lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: Early morning sunrise game drive in Serengeti Seronera area where you can see plenty of wildlife taking advantage of the cooler temperatures of the early morning - experience predators hunting prey and much more. Thereafter drive back to the camp for full breakfast then continue with game drive with picnic lunch box en-route until the afternoon. Afterwards drive to Ngorongoro Camp site / Lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro crater floor for half day game viewing enjoy plenty of wildlife in the crater with picnic lunch en-route. Thereafter drive back to Moshi.

MACHAME ROUTE​ 7 DAYS, 6 NIGHT’S
Machame ("Whiskey") Route

Known as the "Whiskey" route, the Machame route is now the most popular route on the mountain.

Compared with Marangu, the days on Machame are longer and the walks are steeper.

The Machame route is considered a difficult route, and is better suited for more adventurous folks and those with some hiking or backpacking experience.

The route begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro's southern ice field before summiting.

The minimum number of days required for this route is six days, although seven days is recommended.

The Machame route is scenically beautiful and varied. However, due to the heavy crowds, it loses some of its spendor.

Materuni Waterfall

A 45 to 60 minute walk brings you to the Materuni Falls, where you will have a picnic lunch at riverside.

After lunch you may rest and enjoy the peace and beauty, or your guide will take your group for a walk above the falls, into the Kilimanjaro rainforest, observing more flora and hopefully, some monkeys or other wildlife.

MARANGU ROUTE 6 DAYS, 5 NIGHT’S.

Marangu ("Coca Cola") Route **

Known as the "Coca-Cola" route, the Marangu route is a classic trek on Mount Kilimanjaro.

It is the oldest, most well established route. Many favor the Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope.

It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations. The minimum days required for this route is five, although the probability of successfully reaching the top in that time period is quite.

Lake Chala is a beautiful area located on the western side of Kilimanjaro at the Kenya/Tanzanian border, about 2.5 hour drive from Moshi.

The lake is filled and drained by underground streams.

Located near the slopes of Kilimanjaro, the lake is amazingly clear with steep crater walls.

It is the deepest inland water body in Africa with the depth of about 3km.

Due to the enormous depth boating is recommended.

Visitors can hike at the lake and enjoy the beautiful view and fresh air.

Aside from plenty of fish, Monitor lizards, baboons, monkeys and common snakes may be seen by chance..

Even higher, beyond 4,000 m, this sensation intensifies as the landscape develops into a more bizarre alpine desert with sandy loose earth and intense weather conditions and temperature fluctuations so dramatic that barely any plant species survive other than everlasting flowers, mosses and lichens.

Only the odd lichen survives beyond 5000 m, after Kibo Huts and beyond the Saddle, where the landscape is predominantly rock and ice fields as climbers experience the final steep push to the summit.

Kilimanjaro Glaciers

At first sight, Kilimanjaro’s glaciers look like nothing more than big smooth piles of slightly monotonous ice.

On second sight they pretty much look like this too. Yet there’s much more to Kili’s glaciers than meets the eye.

For these cathedrals of gleaming blue-white ice are dynamic repositories of climatic history. And they could also be providing us with a portent for impending natural disaster.
