When climbing the 6-day Marangu route, you’ll have a acclimatization day at Zebra Rocks. A set of volcanic rocks that on the outside look like the stripes of a zebra. Start an hour hike from the Horombo Huts to see the special phenomenon and hike back in preparation for the high altitudes on the summit.

The third vegetational zone on Mount Kilimanjaro is the Alpine Desert. A barren and inhospitable plain where very few flowers and trees grow. The landscape is dominated by rocks. You’re at an altitude of around 4.000m to 5.000m (13000ft to 16000ft).

The second vegetational zone on Mount Kilimanjaro is the Moorland. The rainforest ends abruptly when stepping into this zone and you’ll see magnificent views over the moorland plains. The average temperature drops and the humidity easily creates fog.

Our balloon safari is an add-on to safaris in Serengeti National Park and It's actually a once-in-a-lifetime experience that offers views of the Serengeti's wildlife and plains from above.

A hot air balloon flight
A bush breakfast

What to expect:

A sunrise flight over the savannah

The Machelen Route is a fairly short route, but very easy to climb. It is not technically difficult but it is pretty strenuous with many steep trails. But, it’s a very rewarding route with spectacular sceneries! Explore the roof of Africa! More info on our website! Once a hero, Always a hero!
