Day 6: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m) to Arusha

The last day on the mountain started with a relaxed breakfast and a smile on everyone’s face. The traditional celebration ceremony with guests and mountain crew rings in the end of the climb. 🌿🙌

ℹ️ The last leg of the climb takes our guests on a gentle 2-3 hour descent through rainforest to the Mweka Gate.

ℹ️ The summit attempt starts around mid-night, while the ground is still frozen, to reach Uhuru Peak by sunrise. By torchlight, climbers make their way through the night and to Stella Point (5,730m) on the crater rim. From here the last stretch takes them to the highest point Uhuru Peak. Enjoying the first sunlight along the way and the celebratory moment at the top, climbers and guides make their way back to Barafu Camp for breakfast and a short rest before descending further to Mweka Camp.

Marcel & Sven crossed the steep Barranco Wall this morning; our crew always close by to lend a helping hand where needed. Well done! They have now reached Barafu Camp, the basecamp for tonight’s summit attempt. 🥾👌

ℹ️ After climbing Barranco Wall, also known as Breakfast Wall, and making their way through the Karanga Valley, our guests and crew will try to get some sleep in the early evening hours before they start the summit attempt around mid-night.

Day 3: New Shira Camp (3,845m) to Lava Tower (4,640 m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Well-rested our guests Sven & Marcel today hiked up to Lava Tower and back down to the beautiful Barranco Camp. With a bit of luck, they enjoys spectacular views of Kibo from camp. ⛰️

ℹ️ Today’s focus is acclimatisation: Following the “climb high, sleep low” maxim, our climbers slowly expose their bodies to the higher altitude, increasing their chances for a successful summit. Over the 6-to-7-hour hike, vegetation changes to an alpine desert towards Lava Tower and takes our guests through the Barranco Valley with its lobelia and senecio plants.

ℹ️ On the first day of their climb, our guests walk through beautiful indigenous mountain rain forest. With a little luck they can even spot the beautiful Colobus Monkey in the trees. After 5 to 6 hours and a picnic lunch along the way, they reach Machame Camp and spend their first night on the mountain at 3010m.

ℹ️ Barranco Wall, also known as Breakfast Wall, is probably the steepest section on the entire route. After making their way to the top, climbers and crew cross the Karanga Valley. After a 3-to4-hour hike, they reach Karanga Camp where they will spend the night.

It’s time to continue the trail onwards and upwards! Together with guide and crew, Russel & David make their way to Shira Camp 2 today 🌿🥾

ℹ️ A narrow trail leads climbers through the rainforest as vegetation is getting scarcer. Walking through moorland, passing lobelia and erica plants, they finally continue through rolling hills until they reach Shira Camp 1 after about 4 to 5 hours. After a restful lunch break, climbers and crew continue for another 3 hours to Shira 2 Camp, their camp for the night. If the weather permits, you have views across the Shira Plateau and of the Kibo summit along the way.

After a short hike, crew and climbers arrive at Big Tree Camp where they spend their first night on Mt Kilimanjaro.

Sabrina & Raphael stopped around 5400 M, While Jeanine stopped around 5100 & Valmir decided to stay Kibo Hut 4700M. All these are for safety reasons.👏 Thank you to our amazing crew for taking them up and safely back down again!
