In our previous post, we introduced Lulu – a new mountain guide on our team who has always dreamt of guiding travelers through the wonders of Tanzania.
Today, we want to shine a light on her major achievement. With the support of sponsors from WHOA Travel and LEKI USA, Lulu is now a certified #WildernessFirstResponder.
The course aims to teach guides and trip leaders the skills required to respond to emergency situations in remote locations, such as in the mountains. A certified WFR knows how to handle emergencies when working in the wild and how to evacuate from rough terrain.
Lulu is now capable of conducting a thorough physical exam, obtaining a patient history, assessing vital signs, providing emergency care in the wilderness, and making crucial evacuation decisions.
Being a female guide with a WFR certificate in Tanzania is a milestone in achieving gender equality.
Lulu, we're proud of your achievement and hope that your success will inspire other women!

Materuni Waterfall is a picturesque attraction located just 45 minutes by car from Moshi. It is the highest waterfall on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, reaching over 150 meters. The waterfall is a perfect place to unwind, de-stress, and relax after a challenging day. It creates a tranquil atmosphere and makes you fall in love with its environment 💙.The area around Materuni Waterfall is known to be a settlement for the Chagga people. The Chagga (known as Wachaga in Kiswahili) is an ethnic group residing in the Kilimanjaro region. They are known to be one of the most financially successful ethnic groups in all of Tanzania, primarily due to their masterful agricultural methods and the fertile soils around Kilimanjaro. #tanzaniajourneys #sustainabletravel #responsibletravel #materuniwaterfall #materuni #natureescape #chagga #chaggastories #exploretanzania #outdoorgetaway

These little guys may not be why an African safari is on your wishlist. But you do not see them often and we want to give them credit. These two brave dung beetles, also called rollers, are working hard rolling a little ball of dung that can weigh up to 50 times their own body weight. Then they will roll it away and bury them to be used as brood chambers or food. Impressive right?
