Prison island officially called changu island locally but it became prison when rebellious slaves detained in the island around 1860's but later built prison complex by the British governor of Zanzibar in 1893 as officially prison for criminals,unfortunately once the prison complex completed,it was never used as prison and instead,it was used as quarantine station for yellow fever,chicken pox and cholera patients who were monitered untill they recover and then sent to their inhabitants.today the island is a home of a giant tortoise brought from seychelles as a gift to Zanzibar sultan wife and live in the island as their home.it your chance to see and visit the prison and the tortoise sanctuary who reside in the island
