'What's with the bird?'

One of our frequently asked questions:
'What type of bird is on Zanzitaxi's logo?'.
The answer: the logo is inspired by a collared sunbird (Hedydipna Collaris), a common bird on the Zanzibar Archipelago. Sunbirds are a group of very small but beautiful Old World passerine birds which feed largely on nectar. The link with Zanzitaxi? The flight of the sunbird is fast and direct. ;)

One of Zanzitaxi's tours combines a visit to Prison Island’s giants tortoises before heading out to this magical place; truly the stuff that dreams are made of! Stone Town is where it simmers, with its crumbling coral-rag palaces, winding, walled alleyways, and a history steeped in spices. As the sun sets in Stone Town, locals and tourists alike flock down to Forodhani Gardens on the waterfront, where a nightly food market serves up hot griddles laden with seafood. Quench your thirst with a freshly squeezed sugarcane juice, sample skewers of octopus dipped in tamarind, lobster and crab claw, platters of prawns and Zanzibar Pizza (a chapati-type pita bread stuffed with mince meat, egg, mayo, onion & chilli).

Jozani Forest Tour with Zanzitaxi...
This forest is one of the last remaining sanctuaries in the world of the red colubus monkey. The forest is 2,512 hectares (6,207 acres) in size and was declared a nature reserve in the 1960′s. Wonderful photo opportunities and sightings of these rare creatures living in the forest reserves are possible on the pathways. Our guides are also naturalists and nature lovers will have a wonderful time in the nature reserve. SAFARI BLUE @ ZANZITAXI!
Book one of Zanzibar's favorite tours at Zanzitaxi. Sail, snorkel, swim, sunbathe, explore, feast, observe, play…a Safari Blue day is packed with adventure.

THE TOUR
Menai Bay is scattered with isolated sandbanks, rugged island scenery, uninhabited islets, pristine marine life and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Glide through the warm Indian Ocean and gaze at the abundant and diverse marine life through translucent waters.

Snorkel over two different reefs in the morning. Take advantage of the Crew’s expertise as they guide you to the best viewing spots.

Mid morning, you arrive at a large powdery sandbank. From here enjoy the pristine sand, swim in the shallow waters or simply lay on the beach and relish the warmth of the tropical sun.

Enter the mangrove lagoon by dhow through one of the two narrow entrances and find a natural swimming pool that changes with the tide. The lagoon is a haven of still and calm and just perfect for a dip!

Menai Bay is a marine-protected area and a sanctuary for humpback and bottlenose dolphins. Dolphins are seen on 90% of the trips.

The Kwale Island restaurant is ready to serve you as soon as you arrive. Feast on delicious grilled fresh seafood with local sauces. Your meal is followed by a tasting of 10-15 exotic fruits served by one of the Crew. Afterwards, sip on Amarula and coffee.

Weather permitting, sail on a traditional double-outrigger canoe used by local fishermen. Kwale Island is a great place to explore – climb an ancient baobab tree, walk along the beach, view coral formations and discover hermit crabs scurrying about.

On your return to Fumba, the crew raises the lateen sail while you make a leisurely voyage back as the sun sets on your glorious day in paradise.
