When you think of a cow in their natural habitat, you probably think of lush green meadows and plump cattle chewing cud right? That's not so much the picture on the South East Coast of Zanzibar where cattle strut the stretch of Paje Beach daily. Supposedly owned by a farmer near the Jozani Forest, these beach bovine move between Jambiani and Bwejuu against a colourful backdrop of kite surfers. No one knows exactly why they visit the beach, it must be the sand between their hooves that keeps them coming back!

"SUR", a 60' (18 metre) traditional Dhow was built in India in 1991, entirely out of high quality Indian Teak. Soon after she was built, she sailed to northern Germany where she was converted into an ocean sailing yacht capable of major ocean crossings. SUR has since undergone a second major refit that included many new comforts and modern navigation equipment being added to her. What to expect and where to stay for a June Serengeti migration safari?

June marks the end of the rainy season when the plains are lush and green. Traditionally this is when herds of wildebeest cross the Grumeti River and widely spread out and so you can expect longer, more rewarding game drives. Driving times between leading and trailing herds can sometimes exceed three hours!

Allow us to plan the perfect itinerary for you including enough time on time on both sides of the Nyamuma and Simiti Hills, giving you the best of both worlds. You could find yourself deep in the migration one day and then have a view of the approaching migration at the Mbalageti River the next day. Planning where and how you spend your time will make for the best possible Serengeti migration safari.

Encountering the Maasai is always a special sight. Not only do their bright red robes set them apart visually but they have a remarkable calmness and courageousness about them, regardless of whether or not they have a spear in their hand.

Up until recently, the only way for a Maasai boy to achieve warrior status was to single-handedly kill a lion with his spear. While some rituals are changing to better suit the times, many of these tribesmen's traditions remain.

A trip through Tanzania can include meeting the Maasai in their manyattas (villages) if you wish. You'll really come to know a country when you come to know its people.
