The best time to visit Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro's wildlife resides in the crater year-round. Therefore, choosing the ideal time for a safari isn't about maximizing your game-viewing, but more about deciding how many people and vehicles you want to share the experience with.
In our opinion, the best time to visit the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is during April and May. Yes indeed, that's during the rainy season. There are far fewer visitors this time of the year, and the crater is wonderfully lush and green compared to the dusty dry-season landscape in other months.
Are you travelling from July to September (peak season) or December to February (calving season)? Expect a high number of visitors and long queues of vehicles waiting to enter the Ngorongoro Crater. Being down at the caldera can feel very crowded around these times of year, compromising the true wilderness experience.

What is a safari and what makes it different from a typical vacation?

The word safari comes from the Swahili language, meaning ‘a journey’ and is the root of the verb ‘to travel’ in this East African language. 
Tanzania is by far the best country in Africa to go on a safari - it boasts the largest national parks, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as the highest mountain in Africa.
As further testament to Tanzania’s claim as the top country in Africa for a safari, Serengeti National Park has been awarded the ‘Best Safari Destination’ out of numerous national parks across Africa by the pundits for multiple years in a row.
Hence, a safari is not just a vacation, but a travel experience in Africa. While other places (such as Thailand or India) may advertise ‘safaris’, these game drives to view animals are not comparable to an African safari, nor do they have any historical connection to this Swahili word.

Lake Manyara National Park Safari?

An integral part of the Tanzania safari experience, Lake Manyara National Park shouldn’t be overlooked in the rush to visit its more famous neighbours – the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It literally lies down the road from the town of Arusha, Tanzania’s entry and exit point for the ‘northern safari circuit’ and makes a relaxing, breath-catching stopover for a day or two.

Lying at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake, the north-west of which is protected by the Lake Manyara National Park. Much of the 330km² park is taken up by the lake but one of the many surprises in store for visitors is the remarkably wide diversity of terrestrial habitats – forest, wetland, floodplain, acacia woodland – which in turn supports an equally impressive variety of wildlife.
The first thing you’ll notice on a Lake Manyara safari is the birdlife: nearly 400 species have been recorded here and it’s an excellent and easily accessible introduction to the birds of East Africa. Feathered highlights include large flocks of flamingos and many birds of prey.

More surprises lie ahead for the visitor. Besides a supporting cast of buffalo, antelope, zebra and giraffe, Lake Manyara is home to a growing elephant population while the park’s lions have developed the intriguing habit of climbing trees. The ever-elusive leopard occurs in the park while boat cruises will take you in search of snorting hippo pods and basking crocodiles.

In this article, we show you some of the most striking, strange and common flora you will find on the mountain.

The red hot poker, also know as a torch lily, is a showy and dramatic plant.   A member of the liliaceae family, these drought and heat tolerant perennials flourish in the arid areas of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The flowers are a bright orange and yellow, resembling blazing hot metal that has been removed from a forge.

Growing Kniphofia has several benefits: Vibrant Colors: The fiery hues of the Red Hot Poker add a bright and eye-catching element to the mountain . The unique color transition in its flowers can add depth and interest to the landscape. Attracts Pollinators: Kniphofia is beloved by hummingbirds and bees.

Why visit Tarangire National Park?
Safari in the Tarangire

Tarangire National Park is a park in Tanzania’s northern Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park, which provides water for the baobab trees, birds, Masai people and migrating wildlife including the big five and rare tree-climbing lion. 

A safari trip to the Tarangire is less busy than visitors will find in the Serengeti. This doesn’t take away from the quality of this park however as the big five can easily be found along with large numbers of other wildlife, migration sightings, beautiful acacia trees as well as red termite mounds. 

This tree is a significant source of food to various animals which normally feed on its edible seed. On the other hand, elephants sharpen their huge tusks on the bark of these trees.
