We lost a dear friend and a business partner. Moreover Zanzibar lost a loving heart for its people!

Till we see you again - Delene! 💔

With great sadness, we share the passing of Delene, co- owner of East Africa Diving.

Delene was very recently diagnosed with aggressive cancer and passed away last week in Cape Town with loved ones and family around.

Delene and Michael started the diving school in 2001 and have been running it with lots of drive, focus and hard work over the years. She loved Zanzibar and had a real passion for her work and people. She will be sorely missed by all.

Our business will continue as normal and we will keep running the professional service we always have and what she stood for.

Final of our Tanzania South trip in style! Nyerere & Mikumi & Ruaha - 3 parks which can’t be more different than they are! What amazes me every time again is the vastness and diversity of Tanzania! We discovered „the scent of Ruaha“ which is so unique and no one really knows where it comes from. We should find out and make a perfume out of it because it is as special as our country is! Thanks to my other musketeers for another week on the road with disaster, laughter and adventure!

Rest in Peace Nicolas Cedro

Today we lost a good friend, a close business partner, the General Manager of Park Hyatt and the Spanish Honorary Consul.

He was a big part of our tourism community on Zanzibar and left for many people a big footprint through his work, love and passion for our island.

Despite we are sad for this loss - we also know that Nicolas would have not wanted us to be sad, because he was a big warrior of living the life to the fullest. That’s why we are proud to have met him - and we will keep him in memory with all his energy and positive vibes.

Enjoy life wherever you are, Warrior! Thanks for all you have done for us - we will always remember you.

ROLE:

- Overseeing the garage & wash bay
- Keeping track of the vehicles that need repairing
- Liaising with the Operations department regarding vehicles that are ok or not ok to be driven
- Requesting for the necessary spare parts and doing the necessary paperwork
- Managing the requested money accordingly

- Ensuring that the company vehicles are always in top quality (stickers, cooler box, etc)
- Controlling the GPS and fuel consumption of the vehicles and reporting any discrepancies
- Ensuring that each driver has the required documentations for airport arrivals (i.e. sign boards & itineraries)
- Being at the airport whenever the need arises for arrivals/departures

Day 11 Samburu

You would not believe you are still in the same country … not even 2 hours from Lewa - everything looks different.

We came from Shaba side and visited some lodges on the way in the main Samburu reserve. It is bushy - sandy - wild - and a lot of elephants … and I mean a looot of elephants. After leaving through Westgate you cross some tiny villages and it is getting even more wild. The roads become more rocky and you ask yourself - really? 🤔

But then you know why you had to go all this way! First you see is the helicopter based in the lodge!

The views are breath taking - the lodge is wild - kind of Marocco style - very open - very included in nature. 🥰

Day 10 Lewa

Change of scenery - we drove from Loisaba to Lewa.

Lewa is UNESCO protected heritage site for their incredible Rhino Sanctuary. You can find here more than 100 Southern White Rhinos 🦏 and over 80 Black Rhinos 🦏… they are really everywhere … unbelievable 😍

The conservancy is by landscape very different - it is more grass lands with river valley and beautiful mountains around it.

Day 9 Loisaba

Today was all about the private conservancy Loisaba with 3 unique Elewana Properties.

Besides the lodges being amazing, we saw so many unique wildlife which you can find only in northern Kenya:
Grevy’s zebras 🦓
Reticulated giraffes 🦒
Oryx
Stripped hyena
Kudu
Guineafowls
Leopard turtle 🐢

But most of all we visited the dog handlers of the anti-poaching unit of the private Loisaba conservancy. They are an amazing example how a conservancy can work close with the local communities as these dogs also help to find thieves or lost children in the bush! And most of all - they are so gentle and cute - you fell in love at first sight!

Day 8 Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta the Rhino sanctuary … here you can find the last 2 Northern White Rhinos in the world - Najin and Fatu. Both are females and worth even is - both are not able to carry a baby out as Najin has very bad legs from her time in a Czech Zoo and Fatu has a kidney problem.

The conservation took now eggs from them and managed with the S***m of Sudan the last male Rhino of this species which died already to create embryos.

They know chose 2 Southern Rhinos as surrogates and Are hoping once they are ready - that they would be able to carry the babies out.

It is somehow sad - because it was us the human race which extinct them almost. So let’s hope that the plan the conservation has will work out and we will get a baby Northern Rhino from a surrogate Rhino. 🦏

The Northern White Rhinos are fat and flat and have hairy ears 🤣 while the Southern White Rhinos are slim and tall 🙈

When you are on Kenya - please come and see them - they are fantastic animals to watch … and somehow really cute 🥰

Day 7 Aberdare

We arrived in the Ark in Aberdare - the National Park most famous for Princess Elisabeth became Queen 👑!

But besides the History written here, it is a place to experience the wildlife really close!

Elephants are coming for their evening meal of salts and mineral around the little lake here near the lodge! 🐘 🐘🐘

Day 7 Masai Mara

Our last day here and it was soo nice and soo interesting.

The duck of Mahali Mzuri says good bye and come back soon.

During breakfast we saw a lioness with cubs and a leopard with cubs.

Flying now from Olkiombo Airstrip to Nairobi to continue from there to Aberdare.

Day 6 Masai Mara

What a day this was!!

We saw a few lodges which are in our opinion overrated, underrated and also worth the reputation they have!

And during on the other lodge we met even her - the lioness. She literally presented all we wanted:

Her incredible muscles 💪🏼
Her simple royality 😎

Day 5 Masai Mara

Today we started to work ourselves up from South of Masai Mara to Northern Masai Mara and visited several very nice lodges.

Two lodges surprised me the most, Sala’s Camp from The Safari Collection and Sanctuary Olonana. 😍

The photo is taken while we are sitting around the bonfire and watching and listening to the Hippos in the River.

They obviously have a discussion right now who leaves the river first to eat … lazy buggers they 🦛
