Tunisia has been a country which has always been in my list of must visit places, and in Tunisia I find the southern region to be one of the most unique places. The matter of fact is I grew up watching plenty of Hollywood movies and most of the classic desert scenes such as the one in Starwars have quite simply taken my breath away.

It has a pleasant canyon and has an abandoned old town. The town was abandoned after the river flooded for 22 days in 1969.
It is located north of the salt lakes and receives fresh water from the nearby hills. It is in the hillcountry near the border with Algeria

Djerba, the largest island of North Africa, is situated southeast of Tunisia on the Gulf of Gabes, and is ringed by miles of sandy beaches and luxury hotels.
At just over 500 square kilometres, the immediate assumption could be that there is little to do at Djerba Island. However, one should not forget that this is still the largest island of North Africa and is therefore seen as a massive tourist trap, currently ranked #4 as the world’s fastest growing tourist attraction

Tataouine - does the name sound familiar?
The name featured in the Star Wars movie - Episode One The Phantom Menace. Many of the scenes were shot in the area.
Tataouine is an important market town for the south-east region. A cradle of several successive civilizations, today the past is inscribed on every rock of the majestic Ksours (fortified granaries formed by oblong cells, the "ghorfas") which dominate the whole area. Tataouine is a town where locals, many attired in traditional dress, meet to buy sell and exchange goods. The last Berber speaking villages of Tunisia are in this region.

Tozeur is an oasis and a city in south west Tunisia. The city is located North West of Chott el-Djerid. Fed by hundreds of gushing underground streams, this oasis is a magical spot endowed with refreshing orchards and dashed with the green of palm trees laden with large golden dates. Here you will feel a million miles away from life as you know it, in a paradise setting, where through man's patience, life was born in the heart of the desert.
