Ukraine's incoming travel business seems to grasp fresh air this summer, and particularly due to the cooperation between Ukraine and the countries of the Arabian Gulf. Recently liberalization of the visa regime for Gulf countries has taken place. And in June 2021 two direct air flights from Saudi Arabia to Ukraine have been launched.

On June 11, the first plane from the leading low-cost airline in the Middle East, Flynas departed from Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and arrived at Boryspil International Airport in Kyiv.

On 20 June, Lviv International Airport welcomed the first SkyUp charter aircraft from Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia.

With the opening of direct flights, the flight time from Ukraine to Saudi Arabia will be approximately 5 hours. Previously, it was possible to fly to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia only with transfers at the airports of Istanbul, Doha and Dubai.

Below is a comment of Mariana Oleskiv, the Chair of the State Agency for Tourism Development (SATD) as to the perspectives of cooperation between Ukraine and GC:

"The Gulf countries are a promising direction for the development of tourist flows, especially for Ukraine. The combination of green, mountain, cultural and gastronomic tourism is something that may be of interest to travelers from the Middle East".

Dear friends, our team is back with good news and some updates on travelling to Ukraine.

Incoming travel business is slowly getting back. Since June 9 Ukraine has entered the green zone, that means:

✔️Ukraine is open for foreign visitors

✔️The majority of services are open, including museums, hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes, religious establishments

Foreign guests can enter Ukraine without PCR tests if fully vaccinated. Non-vaccinated travelers must have a health insurance
that covers COVID-19 treatment in Ukraine and a document issued in English or translated into English certifying one of the following:

✔️ a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to entering the country;

✔️ a negative antigen test taken within 72 hours prior to entering the country;

We are ready for travel season and would be happy to support your travel plans if you choose Ukraine as your next travel destination :-)

Ukraine is well-known as a country of arts and crafts. This is especially true for the Ukrainian Carpathians region - Hutzulshchyna. People of this area called Hutzuls are a real heritage of the Hutzulshchyna. A lot of them were and are genious craftsmen that developed and preserved Hutzul local culture carried on through

✔️ornamental and embroidered clothing inspired by nature and landscape around them

✔️handicraft and arts like wooden carving, metalworking, ceramics, Easter egg painting and lyzhnyk weaving

✔️music, highlander songs, dance and usage of folk instruments, especially accordion, cymbals and trembitas -large wooden horns

✔️rich traditions and rituals embraced in everyday life and during celebrations (lively and colourful Hutsul weddings)

✔️legends and folktales of important people, places and events used as a form of education on social norms, believes and acceptable behaviours

✔️Hutsul dialect (based on Western Ukrainian and elements of Polish)

Not long ago we visited a famous wood carver from Kosiv Mykola Strynadiuk and his house museum to enjoy the wood carving art and a private workshop. Please enjoy our small video presentation of the crafstman and his wooden art.

Hanami - is a Japanese🇯🇵 word and notion that stands for contemplation of the flowers' and trees' blossom. For centuries Japan has especially worshipped cherry blossoms. 🌸🌿

A lot of Ukrainians dream and travel 🌍✈️🎒to Japan 🇯🇵to see these beauty🤩. And as for the Japanese - they choose often the July time in Ukraine 💛💙 to come for Ukrainian Hanami - that is watch the blossom of sunflowers🌻🌿.

That's a truly amazing experience for them. And we are incredibly happy too 🤗 that this beauty of nature is next to us! And lucky for us, sunflowers' blossom 🌻🌿 lasts for 20-30 days, while sakura only 7-10 days.

So let's enjoy this beauty! Sunflower🌻 - the flower of the sun🌼and is a symbol of Ukraine🇺🇦!

This year we may not share with you stories and pictures of our clients that visit Ukraine, but with pleasure we recollect our memories and would like to share with you some of our remarkable events. The one told below was very interesting and emotionally rich!

In 2001 Atakoy Marina Yacht Club Ataköy Marina from Istanbul organized KAYRA Black Sea Cruise for 52 yachts with international teams. They sailed across the Black Sea and visited the ports of all countries on the Black Sea. Once arrived in Odesa yachts could not sail north by the Dnipro river to Kyiv since yachts had high sails and could not go through the sluice gates and bridges of the Dnipro.

The participants took a night train to Kyiv and once landed in the capital of Ukraine embarked on a cruise ship that took them down the river Dnipro back to Odesa. Yachtsmen turned into Dnipro cruise passengers :-) Our team from Ukraine-Rus' helped with the cruise program and set on a cruise together with 150 people.

There were 7 fun days and nights on the Taras Shevchenko ship along the route Kyiv – Kanev – Kremenchuk – Dnipro – Zaporizhzhia – Kherson – Odesa. Music by famous Ukrainian band Gorlitsa (now G-ART #всепоцимбалах) accompanied our guests all way through. As well as fun activities. In Kanev after visit the Taras Hill yachtsmen bought Ukrainian style clothes, fell in love with broidery, and made a costume party. It was quite funny to see Turkish men turned Cossacks. Visit to the Dnipro city coincided with the Bastille Day and French yachtsmen turned sad as they remembered they had forgotten their flag on board of a yacht in Odessa. So while the participants were visiting the Aerocosmic Museum, the team of Ukraine-Rus did some sewing and prepared the French flag.

Other impressions included: in Zaporizhzhia - Hortitsa island and Cossack horse show, in Kherson – Dnipro Delta and fish soup tasting, in Odessa – city sightseeing.

On this voyage our team member and vice president Catherine Romanyk saw for the first time the yucca plant in Kanev. Now, 19 years later it grows in her garden and reminds of that memorable Kayra event.

08/07/2020

Kupala night is an ancient celebration of the Eastern Slavs dedicated to the summer solstice. From year to year it comes on July 6 and ends on July 7 according to the Georgian calender.

Ivana Kupala Day (official name of the holiday) combines the words Ivan, the Slavic name of John the Baptist, and Kupala, derived from the Slavic word for bathing. However, is also said the name of the day is associated with Kupajla or Kupalo, a harvest god.

Most of the traditions for Kupala Night trace back to the pagan past. For instance, one of the most widely adhered to is that all the possible evil spirits like witches, snakes, water, mermaids, and werewolves awaken at this time. Therefore, you shouldn’t sleep on Kupala Night. It is customary to go to a pond, a river or a lake and celebrate the holiday there. However, you cannot swim, as bad spirits can make you drown.

People believed that all plants had special magical powers on this day. That is why, young girls were collecting the healing plants, and they were singing at the same time. Bunches of grass, gathered on the holiday, hung in the house and acted as a charm for the whole family.

On Kupala Night, primarily young women guessed about their fiancé and future family. The popular divination is to weave a wreath of wildflowers while making a wish, and then to let it go on the river. If the wreath floats far away, the wish will come true, and if it is beaten to the shore or sinks, then you should forget about your dream for a while.

Another ritual implies jumping over the flames of a bonfire - to get rid of evil spirits and test braveness and faith. The failure of a couple in love to complete the jump, while holding hands, is a sign of their destined separation.

We, the team of Ukraine-Rus', find it fun and useful to support some old customs connected with national and folk holidays since it reminds us and our kids of our roots and traditions, helps us get closer to nature and surrounding world, and is yet another occasion to get together )))

Ievhen Klopotenko - is a person who definitely makes a difference in the Ukrainian food culture today. Half a million people follow Ievhens’ social media pages. He popularizes food culture, asks questions whether Ukrainians truly knows their food culture, improves menus in Ukrainian schools, rediscovers dishes and brings fresh air into Ukrainian kitchens with new recipes. Ievhen claims that 2 million people has tried recipes offered by him.

In the article below (unfortunately it is only available in Ukrainian language) Ievhen Klopotenko explains why we are mistaken when think that such dishes as “borsch”, “varenyky and “salo” are not truly Ukrainian and names 4 truly Ukrainian dishes.

In fact, varenyky – came to us from Turkey, borsch was initially the meals for village people not only in Ukraine, but also in the nearby countries like Poland, Belarus and Romania and salo – lard (pig fat) comes from Italy! Citizens of the small town of Colonnato in the Tuscany were the first to make a lardo. It was an ideal food for the people who extracted marble and prisoners in the quarries.
