WILD DRAMA
In this wild drama, a lioness Stole a Photographer’s Camera and gave it to her cubs as a new toy! Photographing African wild animals is worth an experience, something many photographers attest to!!!

Barbara Jensen Vorster, a photographer was snapping pictures of a lion pride in Botswana in 2018, until a local lioness stole her Canon 7D after she accidentally dropped it on the ground. Luckily, Vorster had another camera on hand and captured what happened next.

Once the camera dropped, the lioness mother growled and approached Voster’s group. They withdrew to their vehicle and watched the drama unfold. “The camera fell with the lens looking up,” Voster recalled, “she gently flipped the camera on its side and picked it up by the barrel of the lens.” The lioness then brought it to her cubs who started to playfully pounce on it. “They dragged it through the dirt, chewed on the lens hood and then, fortunately, like most kids, soon grew tired with their new toy.”

Eventually, Voster was able to fetch her abandoned camera. She found that it still functioned fine, but the lioness left her signature. “There are two huge teeth marks on the rubber focus rings of the lens and small teeth marks on the plastic lens hood, both of which I decided not to replace.”

She spent roughly £200 getting the camera fixed, but the cost was worth the photos she snapped that day. Calling it a “priceless experience,” she also puts it into perspective: “What photographer can boast that their lens had been in a lion’s mouth?”

BIRDERS LENS

CALIFORNIA CONDOR(Gymnogyps Californianus).

1. The California Condor is a new world vulture and the largest North American Land bird with the female being smaller than the male. Their overall length range from 109 to 140 centimeters and wingspan of about 2.49 to 3 centimeters with 7 to 14.1 kilograms for their weight.

2. The adult California Condor is a uniform black with the exception of large triangular patches or bands of White on the underside of the wings with gray legs and feet, an ivory bill, a frill of black feathers surrounding the base of the neck and brownish red eyes though the juvenile is mostly a mottled dark brown with blackish coloration on the head.

3. The Condor’s head and neck has few feathers and both are capable of flushing noticeably in response to emotional state a capability that can serve as communication between individuals. Its skin colour varies from yellowish to a glowing reddish-Orange and the California Condor can make a few hissing or grunting sounds only heard when very close.

4. The Condor begins to look for a mate when they reach sexual maturity at the age of 6 and will attract a prospective mate by performing a display in which the male turns his head red and puffs out his neck feather the spreads his wings and slowly approaches the female therefore if the female lowers her head to accept the male, the Condors will become mates for life.

5. The male and female make a simple nest in caves or on cliff clefts near roosting trees and open spaces for landing then the female will lay one bluish-white egg every other year. Individual birds have a huge range and have been known to travel up to 250 kilometers in search of carrion.

6. This bird doesn’t have a sense of smell that is why it prefers feast on large terrestrial mammalian carcasses such as deer, goats, sheep, donkeys, horses, pigs, cougars, bears or cattle but alternatively they may feed on the bodies of smaller mammals such as rabbits or aquatic mammals like whales, bird and reptile.

ISIT WITH US THE ENDANGERED BATWA PYGMY TRIBE IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Lonely Planet
Visitors may be drawn to Uganda’s tantalising Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by the chance to see the endangered mountain gorillas, but there’s another reason to make the journey: the Batwa.

On the fringes of the national park are the last remaining members of the endangered Batwa Pygmy tribe that once flourished in the area. A visit to their community is not only a way to learn more about the traditional forest practices of this hunter-gatherer culture, but a way to support a people whose ancient way of life has been almost completely wiped out by modernisation.

Meet Bugingo, the oldest silverback, the elder of Nyakagezi gorilla family, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, . He is believed to be 54 years old!

The Nyakagezi family is composed of 9 members; 4 silverbacks, 2 infants, 2 adult females, 1 juvenile. The dominant silverback is Mark who took over leadership from his father Bugingo. The other members include Mathew and Mafia (silverbacks), Nyiramwiza and Nshuti (adult females), Nkanda (juvenile), Mutagamba and Rukundo (Infant).

A rare but interesting fact about the Nyakagezi group is that Bugingo still lives in the family yet in most cases, once the dormant silverback is overthrown, he is banished and dies in isolation or seeks refuge from other gorilla groups.

Tracking this gorilla group is a different feeling!
How did Mafia forgive his father??
An how did Bugingo accept to respect his son??

Too much to learn😊

MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD or RABIHORCADO

Frigatebirds - RABIHORCADOS to birds- have a most unusual method for attracting a mate. Males congregate in small, remote islands and inflate a pouch on their throats, forming a huge, red balloon. The females fly over them and select the ones with the larger, more intensely red balloon as their mate. When the pouch is inflated, males cannot fly, and mating has to wait until the balloon is deflated. Photo by Britt O'Leary.
