Meet Mayanja Richard, our incredibly talented tailor who has been part of the Wild Frontiers Uganda family since 2011. From the seat covers in our safari vehicles to the tents, chairs, and fabrics that make our exclusive camps and lodges truly exceptional, Richard’s work is everywhere—though often behind the scenes.

Richard’s passion for tailoring began when he saw his elderly uncle struggling to keep up with work. Determined to help, he took it upon himself to learn the craft. Fast forward to today, and he’s creating masterpieces that make our guests’ experiences comfortable and memorable.

Right now, Richard is hard at work on a new style dining tent for our mobile camp erected on demand in Murchison Falls National Park — a true testament to his skill and dedication. Of all his creations, he is most proud of the seat covers in our safari vehicles, crafted with precision and care to ensure they stand up to every adventure.

Every day, Dr. Ricky Okwir Okello hikes deep into Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, not as a tourist but as a dedicated veterinarian. His mission? Protecting our beloved mountain gorillas. 👨‍⚕️❤️

From stitching gorilla-on-gorilla fight wounds to monitoring diseases that humans can transmit to gorillas, Dr. Ricky plays a crucial role in keeping these majestic creatures healthy. 🩺🐾 "Without tourism, we wouldn't have the gorillas," he says. The revenue from permits not only supports conservation but also uplifts local communities by creating jobs and reducing human-wildlife conflict. 🌍💚

More gorilla baby news 😊

Over the weekend we welcomed another mountain gorilla 🦍 birth born to adult female Migogo of the Mucunguzi gorilla group in Rushaga - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The new birth brings the total number of individuals in this family to 15 gorillas.

Our Story

It all began with an opportunity in the marketplace for quality, professionally guided, camping and accommodated safaris. Demand for more specialist safaris such as birding and sport fishing allowed the portfolio to grow. In 1998 with the establishment of Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, offshore from Entebbe, the lake based operations grew further providing transport for different tourism activities on Lake Victoria as well as establishing a tented camp on the island.

As further accommodation opportunities arose, Exclusive Camps and Lodges was formed, to manage the camp and lodge portfolio now consisting of: Buhoma Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Ishasha Wilderness Camp in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Baker’s Lodge in Murchison Falls National Park, as well as a Platinum Camping; a “luxury” mobile camp that is set up on demand in wilderness areas where exclusivity is required.

In 2008, the boat safari operation was launched in Murchison Falls National Park, catering for visitors and sport fishermen requiring boats on the Nile River.

Wild Frontiers’ current varied, but specialist portfolio, has seen the company evolve into one of Uganda’s leading tour operators offering professional services in different areas of the tourism sectors. We now run all of our operations from our support office in Entebbe which includes a dedicated workshop facility with mechanics / engineers who constantly maintain and repair our vehicle and boat fleets as well as fabricating much of the infrastructure for our camps and lodges.
