Visitor numbers to Uganda's protected areas have also increased over the past 25 years including the most recent sharp rise in domestic travel. Tourist revenues have been key in enabling us to finance conservation efforts as well as to transform neighboring communities.

During the last 25 years, we’ve also registered an increase of wildlife populations for most animal species. Rhinos for instance that had been declared extinct in Uganda as of 1995 were re-introduced and are now thriving. πŸŽ‰

It's a mountain gorilla BABY BOOM 🦍 in Uganda. Meet the newest member of the Christmas family in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In this photo captured by our field team yesterday (16/05/2022), adult female Kiiza is seen holding her baby so dearly!

With this new birth, the number of mountain gorillas 🦍 in the Christmas family has grown to a total of eight. Kiiza was first spotted by our daily team of trackers with her healthy baby early on Monday morning. Both mother and father are in good health too.

Kiiza is a name given to a child who is born after twins. It is heartwarming to see her bring new life to earth, and is a testimony to the excellent work done by our teams, communities, and partners in conserving these iconic species. We wish them a long and healthy life. 🦍
