Part of Lake Bunyonyi, it is located in southwestern Uganda in Kabale and Kisoro districts. It is the deepest lake in Uganda and 2nd deepest Lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika and 3rd Deepest Lake in the World with a depth which ranges from a minimum of 400 meters to a maximum of 900meters with a length of about 25kms and width of 7kms with a surface area of 17.76 square miles.

Gorillas are herbivorous predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa.There are two populations: One is found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa, within three National Parks: Mgahinga, in southwest Uganda; Volcanoes, in northwest Rwanda; and Virunga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The other population is found in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
