on 24th September.
Destination Jungle, together with the world honors the annual World Gorilla Day every 24th September, which was last Saturday. This day is earmarked for celebrating these primates, and it has been going on for 55 years. Since their discovery in 1902, their population has endured years of war, hunting, habitat destruction and diseases.
This day comes as a move to celebrate gorillas and to empower global communities to take action for gorilla conservation. Mountain gorillas have a small endangered population that has steadily increased in the years. Their population is estimated to be around 1,063 individuals with 1/3 being in Bwindi, Uganda. The current population of these gorillas is consequently the highest population of mountain gorillas ever since their conservation started.
