Clay pots commonly know as NYAMOT
in Karamojong dialect are commonly used among different communities mainly to keep water cold for drinking and it’s also used for cooking.
In Karamojong Culture, it’s also used as a tool of respect to prepare a special meal in death scenarios and that meal is only eaten by older women and children.

Wrestling is one of the many warrior games that the Karimojong men take part in to beat the boredom of the day and strengthen community bonds.

In the afternoon heat and and dust, these worriers gather to wrestle. They grapple each others’ waist, hold tight their limbs. It’s a test of strength but one that’s not birthed from aggressive motives.

It takes loads of gut to drop a worrier down to this dry dusty ground but for those wishing a simpler task, you can test your archery skills at the traditional bow and arrow or Ekorobe Game of spear throwing.

It’s certainly a marvel to watch for every wondering visitor and even crazier for those visitors who wish to attempt this muscle game.

What a beautiful experience for sure!

EXCITING NEWS: African Painted Dogs (commonly called Wild Dogs) which went extinct in Uganda in the 1980’s were sighted this morning around the Narus River in Kidepo Valley National Park Uganda One of our resident rangers captured these images hastily before the pair skipped out of view.

Like is their scientific name (Lycaon pictus) these animals have an irregular, mottled coat, which features patches of red, black, brown, white, and yellow fur. Each animal has its own unique coat pattern, and all have big, rounded ears.

These long-legged canines have only four toes per foot, unlike other dogs, which have five toes on their forefeet.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) reports that the population level of African wild dogs fluctuates but is in a likely irreversible decline, which is why it considers this to be an endangered species that must be protected.

Tomorrow our teams in the field will head out to track them, to collect some data vital for conservation. Hopefully we can get you some better images too.
