The Crested Crane (Grey Crowned Crane)

The Pearl of Africa- the country which is gifted by nature (Uganda) has a beautiful Grey crowned crane, called Balearica regulorum ( Crested Crane). This bird is a permanent resident in the country and is likely to be seen during a safari while here. The Grey Crowned crane is from the same family as the Common crane but splitting orders. However, in most of its range the ethno-ornithology, it is symbolic call which cannot be missed because of its loudness and harmonic since time immemorial has been used to relate time and predict seasons for farmers and long distance travelers. They are found in Africa south of Sahara and the subspecies that is in Uganda is called crested crane and does not migrate. They breed in Uganda and if you are lucky you might see their courtship dance. The bird gets its name from the special crown of stiff gold colored feathers.

This bird is the national bird of Uganda and is even pictured on Uganda’s flag. The national flag of Uganda has the crane and this makes it unique as the only country with a bird on its flag, with its beautiful colors that harmonize with the flag’s colors; Black, Gold and Red. Black symbolizing that Uganda belongs to Africa and we are proud to be part of the continent. The colors include; Gold Colour and this symbolizes the abundant sun and the fresh tasty fruits, food, lush green vegetation and the golden light after twilight that is generated from the sun in Uganda. The Red Color which symbolizes that we (Ugandans) respect other people and we regard them as our brothers or sisters; that we should be warm and friendly as we from all continents all have the same color of blood. The crane- the Ugandan bird is very elegant and appears on the flag stepping forward with the bird on a white background, symbolizing a bright future for the country and that the country is moving forward. In Uganda, the bird is called the “Uganda cranes” which is formally the brand name for the national carrier during the good old days the bird in flight was pictured on the planes!....https://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com/2015/11/10/the-crested-crane-grey-crowned-crane/

Chimpanzee Tracking & swamp walk in Kibale Forest is very interesting.Kibale Forest boasts the highest number of primate species in the world, including our delightful cousins, the chimpanzees. Today, in Uganda, there are approximately 5,000 chimpanzees left in the wild, which makes it a perfect place to spot them! The experienced ranger takes you chimp tracking in the morning or afternoon; in the mean time showing you the many monkey species that live in this tropical forest.A wonderful jungle trip is the result, finishing in an hour of eye to eye contact with the chimpanzees. We can however never guarantee you to see them, they are still wild animals!Your swamp walk (2-3 hours) will take you through grassland, small communities and some beautiful scenery, where the locals are likely to greet you with enthusiastic waves. It is usual to spot 3 or 4 different primate species during this walk, though the highlight is catching a glimpse of the Great Blue Turaco!....https://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com/10-days-mid-range-uganda-safari/

Bwindi Impenetrable National park is the Ultimate Gorilla Exprience The park is located in southwestern Uganda in East Africa. The park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and is situated along the Democratic Republic of Congo border next to the Virunga National Park and on the edge of the Albertine Rift. It comprises 331 square kilometres (128 sq mi) of jungle forests and contains both montane and lowland forest and is accessible only on foot. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site.

The forest is one of the richest ecosystems in Africa,[citation needed] and the diversity of species is a feature of the park. The park provides habitat for some 120 species of mammals, 348 species of birds, 220 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs, chameleons, geckos and many endangered species. Floristically Bwindi is amongst the most diverse forests in East Africa, with more than 1,000 flowering plant species including 163 species of trees and 104 species of ferns. The northern (low altitude) sector is rich in species of the Guineo-Congolian flora. These include two species internationally recognised as endangered, the brown mahogany and Brazzeia longipedicellata. In particular the area shares in the high levels of endemisms of the Albertine Rift.

The park is a sanctuary for colobus monkeys, chimpanzees and many birds (such as hornbills and turacos). It is perhaps most notable for the 340 Bwindi gorillas, half the world's population of the critically endangered mountain gorillas. There are four habituated mountain gorilla groups open to tourism: Mubare; Habinyanja; Rushegura near Buhoma; and the Nkuringo group at Nkuringo...https://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com

Mgahinga Gorilla National park is where the Gold meets Silver. The park is located in the Virunga Mountains and is contiguous with the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mgahinga is situated about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi), by road, south of the town of Kisoro and approximately 55 kilometres (34 mi), by road, west of Kabale, the largest city in the sub-region. The entire park is located in Bufumbira County, in Kisoro District.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the smallest national park in Uganda (about 33.7 km). It is very important, as it is one of the only two parks in Uganda that offer habitat for the endangered Mountain gorilla.

Mgahinga National Park was gazetted in 1991 and is a part of the Virunga Conservation Area, which is 434 km. It adjoins Rwanda's Volcano and the Democratic Republic of Congo's Virunga National Parks. Mountain Elgon National park in the Pearl of Africa is the world's largest Mountain Caldera. It lies 229 kilometers from Uganda's capiatal city -Kampala . It covers an area of 1,145 Km2, and the Mount Elgon is a 4,321m high extinct volcano, which in prehistoric times stood taller than Kilimanjaro does today.

Although the mountain straddles the Kenya border, its loftiest peak, Wagagai, lies within Uganda and is best ascended from the Uganda side.Elgon is an important watershed, and its slopes support a rich variety of altitudinal vegetation zones ranging from montane forest to high open moorland studded with the other-worldly giant lobelia and groundsel plants.

Spectacular scenery is the main attraction for hikers on this oft-neglected and relatively undemanding mountain, but there is also a variety of forest monkeys and small antelope, along with elephant and buffalo. A checklist topping 300 birds includes many species not recorded elsewhere in Uganda. Other attractions include ancient cave paintings close to the trailhead at Budadiri, and spectacular caves and hot springs within the crater...http://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com/... Well, beyond un reasonable doubts, Uganda ( the pearl of Africa) is one of the excellent destinations in Africa and the World as a whole which is gifted with unique natural attractions, culture and history. It is approximately forty one (41) years when the country was globally known by few for its beauty and bounty of tourist attractions but to most for its former brutal tyrant Idi Amin who led Uganda into the reign of terror in 1970’s . By the that time, he was the third president of Uganda after independence in 1962; and ruled the nation for about 8 years with a record of countless massacres, torture and expulsion of the Asian and European community. It was during these years that Uganda’s Tourism got on rocks, as a result of massive poaching by his soldiers and unfriendly nature of Amin to whites. To date at a mention of Uganda, most peoples’ minds run to Idi Amin, and to some think He still exists. The truth, He was exiled in 1979 to Saudi Arabia where he spent all his latter days till his death in 2003...http://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com/

Gorilla Resort ( Up- Market Luxury)

This is a new venture in Buhoma (the gorilla trekking center of Uganda). This Intimate exclusive high end safari camp with a breath-taking view of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is located at Buhoma – Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla National Park on a Mountain side. The camp was designed to blend with the local surroundings. Wherever possible we they used local materials and craftsmen. The Lodge is by the side of the ‘main’ road through Buhoma and you must descend some steep steps every day and then come back up them. This is usual in Buhoma due to the nature of the topography. Less able people should be aware of this but it is good training for the actual trekking.

There are around 8 self-contained “Tents/chalets” spread around the site so all are quite private from each other. They contain the usual beds and washroom facilities ‘out back’ through an insect proof screen. There is even a claw foot bath for your post trek indulgence as well as Washbasin, Vanitory unit and WC. This area is not ‘inside’ and you can admire the view whilst lounging in your bath. Lighting is by Solar Panel and hot water supplied from the log fired “Kampala” Boiler at the rear. If anything the Tents could do with some hanging space for clothes etc., and maybe a better table to place your Cameras and Binos on, but this is being a bit picky. There are no nets as it is too cold for Mossies...http://ugandatourismpotential.wordpress.com/
