NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD. MT NYIRAGONGO IS AFIRE.
Mt Nyiragongo 3,470 m (11,385 ft) is an active volcanic mountain (has been dormant a few years ago) in the larger Virunga Mountain ranges that spread into DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. Mt Nyiragongo located in the Virunga National Park (the oldest wildlife protection area and largest on the African continent, home to Mountain gorillas and a large collection of wildlife species) rises out of the Albertine Rift, about 20 km (12 miles) north of the town of Goma and Lake Kivu.
The 2002 Mt Nyiragongo eruption claimed close to 250 human lives, displaced and left thousands homeless lacking basic support. Undocumented numbers of wildlife species suffocated to death. Everyday lifestyle was negatively affected including business, health, travel, safaris and hospitality services.
22nd May 2021, Mt Nyiragongo volcano is on riot again. The impact of the volcano eruption may not be estimated at the time, but will affect both human and wildlife at large. We are eternally sharing the pain and sadness with the affected communities.
