I know how it can be difficult finding places to see while on a visit to a new town or city, at times we end up pretending to have seen the city but when we have not actually seen the real city. So for what my friends did for me while in Europe, I return the favour to anyone visiting Uganda more especially Kampala. Let us show you real Kampala, uptown and Downtown, shopping places, music, art, dan

cing, cultural sites and the rest. Where we can, we will show you the Uganda away from Kampala, and let you find out why Uganda is the pearl of Africa and why it was named the number One destination for 2012 by Lonely Planet. We can help you find cheap accommodation both in Kampala and out of Kampala. Places to see and visit while in Kampala:
Cathedrals, National Museum, Bahai temple, Namugongo Martrys shrine, National theatre, Art Galleries, Uptown and Downtown Shops and Markets, kampala public transport (that you will tell about your friends for ever), night clubs, bars and restaurants, beaches, etc. Towns and places to visit away from Kampala:
Jinja (source of the nile, buggy jumping, rafting), kasese (safari and mountain climbing- Rwenzori mts, site seeing- lakes), Fortportal (Rwenzori mts, breath taking natural views, site seeing), Mubende (breath taking natural views, site seeing), Masindi (safari, waterfalls) and Kabale (breath taking natural views, Gorilla trekking)

DID YOU KNOW?

Katereke Prison was dug by Kabaka Kalema in the late 19th Century.
It is a unique relic from a particularly unstable and violent period in Buganda History.
Today it is an attractive peaceful and shaded site comprising a circular ditch enclosing an area of about 70 metre in diameter.
The ditch and bank are impressive earth works about 10 meters from the Top to bottom.
Katereke prison ditch is a 30 minutes drive from Kampala past Buddo on Masaka road. Turn right at Nsangi trading centre (opposite the police post) and follow the road for about 1 Km, a Boda Boda ride will cost Ugshs3000.

DID YOU KNOW WEDNESDAY?
KAMPALA CITY is not only given her pleasant look by highly skilled architectural-works but also by Human-hands that have given life to nature like the Kabaka’s lake, locally known as “Kayanja ka Kabaka.”

Location
This is the largest man-made lake in Uganda located in Ndeeba, Rubaga Division Kampala City, Uganda. It is between Ring Road and Nabunya Road. The lake is a few minutes drive from Bulange and about 5 km from the Kampala City centre. It is adjacent to Pope Paul Community Centre in Rubaga. The lake occupies an area of around 2 square km and is about 200 feet deep on an average.

Purpose of the lake
It was constructed by the 52 clans of Buganda from 1885 -1888 during the reign of Ssekabaka Mwanga 11. The plan of the king was to construct a channel wide enough for him to travel by boat to Lake Victoria for swimming and fishing and staying at another palace he had built at Mulungu hill near Lake Victoria The channel would also serve as an escape waterway in the event of armed conflict with the British. The construction was, however, abruptly disrupted and stopped on 2nd August 1888 before the channel could reach Munyonyo because of the religious war which broke out in the kingdom. .

DID YOU KNOW?
Uganda Museum is the oldest Museum in East Africa, it was officially established by the British protectorate government in 1908 with ethnographic material.

The history of the Museum goes back to 1902 when the governor George Wilkerson called for collection of objects of interest throughout the country to set up a museum.

The museum started in a small Sikh temple at Lugard's Fort in Old Kampala Hill. Between 1920 and 1940s, archaeology and paleontological surveys and excavations were conducted by Church Hill, E.J. Wayland, Bishop J. Wilson, P.L.Shinnie, E.Lanning and several others who collected a significant number of artifacts to boost the museum.

The museum at fort Lugard later become too small to hold the specimen and the museum was moved to Margret Trowel School of fine Art in Makerere University College in 1941.
Later funds were raised for a permanent home and the museum was moved to its current home Kitante Hill in 1954. In 2008 The Uganda Museum turned 100 years.
