Let's go to the East, shall we?

Let's go to the East, shall we?

Sipi falls is a triplet of falls, if you like, a trio of three amazing falls, each as neat as Rapunzel's golden locks (ok, I've exaggerated), but really, it is a sight to behold, and of course the falls are thunderous like many others.

Sipi is found in Kapchorwa, that's north-east Sironko/Mbale districts, Eastern Uganda. The name Sipi comes from the fact that people enjoy sipping water from the falls albeit that is Gulliver telling tales. The facts say the name was inherited from a herb known as the "Sep" which can be found at the falls with relative ease, it is medicinal in nature to the effect of treating measles.

While its a trio of falls, only two are close together, from a good vantage point though, and I must add that these are several at these falls, you can see all three and even lake Kyoga however a 7km trek is the ground difference between the two falls and the third, but why not, you can ride there if you like, its an adventure after all. Behind the falls are naturally occurring caves, spooky if you ask me but isn't that where the fun is? Let's disturb some ghosts now shall we?Guess we shall see!

What will you do at Sipi, well the beauty is quite overwhelming so you may just stand and stare but if your not one to be strapped down you could always go for a hike, mountain Elgon in particular starting in Budadiri (a local area and tribe!) through the Sasa trail and back to Sipi. Mountain biking, climbing and bird watching are equally well addressed with no site experts at the falls. So the next time your thinking Eastern Uganda, call me up, check our the website and drop an email at [email protected] and we shall be sure to satisfy your adventure spirits! While your at it, the blue print for this area is at the back of Gulliver's hand so be sure you'll learn a great deal about Uganda's best coffee growing region, we might even have lunch with specially prepared bamboo shoots (trust me, they are tasty) in the middle of a coffee plantation, don't worry the locals are that friendly!

Measuring approximately 1,480 sq miles , Murchison Falls national park is among Uganda's greatest parks. Located in north western Uganda, Masindi, the Park in its entirety is a unification of Bugungu and Karuma game reserves. The park is split from east to west , for about 115km by the Victoria Nile.
It is home to four of the big five; Lions , Elephants, Buffaloes and Leopards. You will however see a host of may other animals like Hippo's and a vast variety of bird species.
The cream of the park is the legendary Murchison Falls, squeezing through a narrow gorge of about only 7 meters, the falls plunge down for 43 meters (141 feet) crashing the rocks at the bottom with a continuous thunderous thump that nearly sounds like an endless thunder in a storm. standing close enough , the rocks beneath your feet will vibrate in testimony to the strength with which the Nile makes its way through the unflinching gorge!
A walk to the top of the falls will deliver this thrill with authenticity. It will also give you ample time to explore the surroundings more closely. The walk is guided by a very knowledgeable ranger so worry not, your safety is covered even if there is really no threat affiliated with this activity. If you burn out after the walk, which we doubt, you can be driven back to base.

A launch trip/boat cruise to the top or bottom of the falls will treat you to the various wildlife habitats of the park, these trips are evening and morning cruises to bring the action easily since at these times you will see hundreds of the animals gather at the banks to sip the water.
The game drives are more authentic and exciting, you will "hunt" for an hour or two searching for the lions or leopards and the prize will indeed be a sight to behold. Murchison falls is not known for pesky crowds so you will experience the "solitude" of the wild.

If you want this captured on your iphone, the view at the top of the falls will make you feel like the ruler of these waters, snap away and brag about your territoty!

The park is well facilitated with sufficient accommodation within and close by, both budget and luxury.

When you chose to go west, and we think you should, do stop by and book with us, we have had the exhilarating pleasure of this adventure and its our pleasure to make it yours too.

Nearly 60,000 years old, the Twa people aka Batwa are among the oldest group of earth people, the are the lost tribe known as “caretakers of the forest”. A per their beliefs, they were charged to protect and take care of the forests by their god nagasian, their ancestry is so deep it resonates as far as the ancient Egyptian court. Their roots are held deep within the Bwindi and Mgahinga forests. They are a fascinating semi-nomad pygmies who had little connection to the “modern” world. Over the years, they have been pushed out of their habitat by agricultural and development projects and relocated scatteredly across Uganda, Congo and Burundi.
They now thrive to keep their legacy alive under the “Batwa Cultural Experience”, a 100 acre forest area next to Bwindi Forest, and the “Batwa trail” which lies along the slopes of the Muhavura and Gahinga mountains.
As a tourist, the Batwa Cultural Experience and Batwa Trail will teleport you to a time when the Batwa thrived gallantly. You will experience the life of the ancient people though your very eyes with the guidance of an authentic Batwa guide, you will see where and how they lived, try out at their hunting, food gathering, name it! And on the Batwa trail you will even be invited into the Ngarama cave, a lava tube below Mountain Gahinga, this was the Batwa Kings palace; the tradition is so striong down here you will nearly be spooked! The experience on the whole is amazing, worth the journey and way above the money.
Both innovations, “TheBatwa Experience and Batwa Trail” are means of preserving the Batwa Culture and creating a better world for the existing Batwa people. It costs $80 for feoreigners and 50,000ugx for nationals. 50% goes to UWA and 50% reverts to the Batwa. More than an experience, you are helping preserve a rich culture.

Located in Kanungu District in South Western Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable a.k.a "Home of gorillas" is along the Democratic Republic of Congo/Uganda border at the Albertine rift. It is a massive 331sq kilometers of jungle forest with thick, heavy and deep forest vegetation across steep climbs and valleys, mountains really. It's home to many animal species among which are over 300 bird species, 200+ butterfly species, 20+ species of frogs, monkeys and many others. The main attraction, as the name goes, are mountain gorillas. If you are a botanist however, you will find over 1000 flowering plant specie as well.
Of the estimated 650-700 world population of mountain gorillas, at least 320 individuals call Bwindi home! The forest is a UNESCO world heritage site. It goes without saying that gorilla tracking is the areas main tourist activity treating over 1000 tourists per year. Attached to this amazing adventure is a day in the life of the Batwa, a people known as the "original people of the forest," a culture evolved yet still very rich in their ancestral traditions. If you seek an adrenaline packed encounter with the worlds endangered mountain gorilla species, Bwindi is your go to guy.

A snap shot adventure.
As a "civilization", gorillas live in groups, these are spread over different parts of the forest, luckily for you, there are several park ranger stations as well, strategically placed in the different areas according to the gorilla group. As a tourist, you will want to look for accommodation close to a group of gorillas you have booked to see, we can help you with this. You will travel in groups of 8, if you are this many, works fine, if not, brace yourself to make some new friends, the grouping is both for your security and that of the gorillas, too many people at once may threaten them and provoke an attack whilst too few may seem like an easy target for them to tease. You will need a gorilla permit for this adventure, we help you secure these from Uganda Wildlife Authority at $600 per person.
After we have booked for you your gorilla group of choice and secured your accommodation, have a good nights rest and mentally prepare for a "physical" tour, the rangers send out trackers early in the morning who locate the position of the various groups and give feedback to the station/meeting point, you are then briefed by a ranger and drive off to the closest entry point to your gorillas along the forest, if you chose your accommodation close to the group you booked to track, it could take as little as 15 minutes to get to an entry point but if you slept far from the spot, it could be an hour or two before you get to point x.

Your tracking begins at that point, you will have a fully guided tour and most frequently an armed guard to es**rt on your adventure so your security is as tight as a bank vault.
The place gets pretty hot for a forest, but do dress the part, long trousers are advised. A potter won't cost you much (one of the locals) but will help a great deal, unless you are quite accustomed to trekking up hill and sloping quite a bit with considerable luggage, ill leave that to you. Do however carry an "easy to carry" backpack with multiple pockets, for both our sake, avoid camping size bags, we cannot camp inside the forest so lets leave that bag behind shall we! Also, expect a very close view of the gorillas, your close range cyber shot will work just fine, if you must take on the role of photographer, a canon D700 will do you good, a long range shot camera however may put you at a disadvantage because of how close to the apes we actually get plus you don't want to carry something bulky and yet delicate. On your two to four hour journey, you will see red tail monkeys , Chimpanzees and numerous bird species before you meet the Mountain Gorilla; who knows?, you may even shake hands with a silverback! Yes, they too are free to mingle in this forest and the best part is that they pay little mind to what your doing on their grounds! Tired yet? No worries, we shall stop by for water, no, you cannot drink it but you will take in the refreshing sight of a waterfall within the forest, take a dip if you are brave enough, we dare you.

When you have had your fill of the tracking and "ape-ing", tag along and we shall dive into the Batwa ancestry and later treat you to their exquisite traditional dish! See you there..
