Latest updates in tourism in Uganda, 2024

Gorillas and chimpanzees stand as two of the most mesmerizing natural wonders in Uganda and Rwanda. Exciting news from the Uganda Wildlife Authority reveals that five additional gorilla families are now open for tracking across various sections of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This development follows the successful completion of a four-year habituation program. As a result, Uganda now offers 194 gorilla tracking permits daily, along with 4 permits for the gorilla habituation experience.

Simultaneously, the Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced fee adjustments set to take effect on July 1, 2024:

🦍 Gorilla permits (Bwindi and Mgahinga): $800 (previously $700)
🌳 Chimp permit (Kibale Forest): $250 (previously $200)
🌳 Chimp permit (Kyambura Gorge, Queen Elizabeth National Park): $100 (previously $50)
🌳 Chimp habituation permit (Kibale Forest): $300 (previously $250)

Meet the world’s newest baby mountain gorilla 🦍 born in the Bikingi Mountain Gorilla Family.

We are glad to share with you this first mobile image from our field team in Rushaga - Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda

The baby was born to Adult Female Mucecuru who is a member of the Bikingi gorilla group, famously known for the Gorilla Habituation Experience. The baby was first seen yesterday but is expected to have been born on the night of Friday, 2nd February 2024.

This new birth brings the total number of mountain gorillas in the family to 09 (nine) individuals. We congratulate Silverback Kaharata (the dad) and Mucecuru (the mom) as well as the whole Bikingi family on this great news. We wish the baby a long and happy life.

Ngamba Island is a hidden gem nestled on Lake Victoria, it is a haven for our closest relatives, and a Sanctuary for the chimpanzees in Uganda. 🐵

Ngamba Island is a 100-acre tropical paradise, home to the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Established in 1998 by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust, this sanctuary provides a safe haven for orphaned and rescued chimpanzees.
