Common Patas Monkey (erythrocebus Patas) It's a distinct specie of monkeys that live in the semi-arid areas. Males are slightly larger in size compared to the females. Groups are only observed during the mating season which is always during the wet. In a none mating period a group of females is only left with a single male as the rest sparse themselves in different areas. Males attain maturity at the age of 4 years. They feed on insects, tubers and seeds. Surprisingly, they are the fastest among all primates with a speed of 55km/h

Cheetahs!
Five subspecies exist namely; Sudan cheetahs, Northwest Africa cheetahs, South Africa cheetahs, Asiatic and the East Africa cheetahs. The East Africa cheetahs (Acinonyx Jubatus raineyi) are the largest among all the subspecies.
Generally the cheetahs are classified on the IUCN list as vulnerable and who's highest populations are those of south Africa subspecies and the East Africa the second. These fastest animals on land can as well be sighted in Uganda's protected areas namely; kidepo valley national park and Pian Upe wildlife reserve. Their habitat is the open grassland.
Surprisingly, in the felinae subfamily, they are the only diurnals! They hunt small animals and birds. They live in small groups of mother and young ones or male coalitions. Male coalitions are permanent for life as for females separate from their young ones between a year and a half to two years. Babies are born after a gestation of 3 months and 2-8 cubs are always delivered. They gain adult hood status at two and a half years to three and ready for mating.
They have quite a short lifespan of 7 years in the wild.

The little bee eaters.
Bee eaters are colorful birds with striking green backs and sharp curved beaks with black legs. Quite a wide family whose difference can be identified by size, throats, breasts and chest coloring. These near- passerines, just like the name suggests, they predominantly feed on bees, flies among other insects. They feed from lower levels as they parch on a favorite branch. They make burrow nests in which they lay their eggs.

Dare not step in an elephant's dung, your feet could easily get pierced! This is because they have a poor digestive system that does not crush fully the vegetation they feed on for which a mong the favorite are the thorny acacia trees! Visit Uganda to be a witness 😜

As the saying goes, "one man's meat is another one's poison!" Giraffes are known to feed on their favorite thorny Acacia trees. The question is, don't they get pricked?
Well, they have a specially adopted tongue to their feeding habits that is 40-50cm long with no front upper teeth in the mouth. The black-like or purplish tongue has thick and sticky saliva that coats any thorny vegetation eaten so as not to hurt the mouth or the digestive tract!

Under the rules of nature, "we all contribute to the survival of one another!" Regardless of how small or big, the fact remains that we need each other! The yellow billed oxpeckers on the buffalo's back play a critical role in pecking ticks off their bodies that relieve them of parasites, in return of food! Mutualism at play!
