Had a great couple days of fishing with this angler from Wisconsin! Day 1 we did a Backcountry Bronzeback float where we didn't see another person on the river all day and caught so many fish we stopped counting! Day 2 we did a Walk & Wade in the mountain streams and found many wild trout eager to eat nymphs and dries! It's a great time of year to angle fish with a fly in Southwest Virginia..!

This couple from Washington State have quite the plan - catch a fish on the fly and watch a live theatre performance in all 50 states. Today we checked the box in Virginia for fish caught, and tomorrow they catch a show at the Barter Theatre to complete state #25. They said this was the most fish they caught in a single day of any state. Included a stream side picnic with wine from our pals at Abingdon Vineyards

Great day for a Casting Clinic with a couple local boys! They won this lesson we donated to the Forest Service for their Mount Rogers Fishing Classic. Included 1 hour on dry land talking casting theory and working on the form, then another hour in the water to start building muscle memory and line management. And while the goal of these clinics isn't to catch fish, rather, to develop good habits that will prepare you for fly fishing, they did catch 5 fish in one hour --- 3 different species. We may catch the fish, but it's them who hook us...

What better memory than spending a day fly fishing in the rain with your gramps... I was absolutely impressed with these two. From starting the day with a casting lesson in the yard during the pouring rain, to continuing to fish through a spectacular deluge - they kept their spirits high, had some fun, made some jokes, and everybody caught fish. Plus the rivers are looking great now after the rain. Fishing should be excellent for the next few weeks...

Great day on the river with this grandfather/grandson team! Eight hours of solitude on the river, and many fish in the boat. Gramps used to guide salt water fly fishing trips, and flew fighter jets for the USAF. He brought his grandson up for flight school in Bristol. Tons of fun swapping stories between hooksets! Reminded me of old days fishing with my gramps...

What's the best way to build an adventure...

This exclusive Float – Fish – Camp trip covers 13 miles of private-access-only river located in a valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains area of Southwest Virginia. Loaded with wild smallmouth bass (the Fightingest Freshwater Fish on a Fly), you’ll spend day one floating backcountry stretches of scenic river where few anglers ever tread. During the warm months, these fish are eager and ready to take a topwater fly, and trophy-size fish are common.

We will land at camp the first evening, where you will be greeted by your camp guide who will have tents and a fire prepared. You’ll be treated to a delicious meal cooked over the campfire, and then spend the evening playing cards, reading, relaxing, or wade fishing the river beside camp.

Day two will begin with hot coffee and breakfast, and then we’ll float our way out of camp, around a bend in the river, and fish our way to the takeout where the shuttle vehicle will be waiting.
This is an all-inclusive trip that includes all fly fishing gear, camp gear, meals, fishing guides and a camp guide.

You can come for the fly tying, drinks and food, and then stay for the fly fishing after-party!

Making a successful fly cast is THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect to fly fishing, and it is one that does not come easy. It is typical for people to spend a year or more of regular fly casting to become confident and comfortable with their cast. So we designed this system to break down the mechanics and the form so you can be ready for your big trip.

If it is your first time fly fishing, we want you to catch fish – probably even more than you want to catch fish – and to do this, it is essential to have a functional fly cast. Watching this video will help prepare you mentally and load you with the information that you will need for your day on the water.

A lot can happen in a two hour Casting Clinic! Matt drove up from Boone. We had good weather for the first half to work on the overhead cast. Then the rain and wind came, so this was the perfect chance to work on specialty casts that can keep you fishing when the weather gets tough. And while the goal of a Casting Clinic is not to catch fish, we caught 3 during the water casting portion. Hope this gets you on your way to many years of enjoying fly fishing!
