Today is World Cancer Day!

As you know 2020 hit us hard with Covid & Cancer and she came back in 2022. As we battle each day, we are also grateful for all who have helped us, supported us and offered love and understanding. Getting diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma rocked my world and LLS was there along with amazing team of doctors, family and friends.

Ironically Covid & Cancer was a blessing. It stopped us dead in our tracks, reminded us to slow down, and love the ones you are with. LIFE IS NOW! Today is our last day in our shop in ADEL. It’s not a sad day - it’s a celebrate - as we pivot to new adventures. Creating memories and getting back on the road again with new adventures!

We can not thank you enough for your support. After countless doctor appointments, tests, treatments, business shut downs, and shifting to survive....it is because of YOU that we are here today. 💚 We are excited to announce our next adventures and invite you along the way!

Hello Adventure Loving Friends!

We are excited to share with you all that we are PIVOTING…that’s right! Just like Ross would say … “PIVOT! PIVOT! PIVOT!” That’s right … we are taking MODVILLE TOURS and PIVOTING! NO…we are not closing. NO…we are not dying. 😂 We are choosing LIFE IS NOW and we are ready to get back on the road again!

2020 was a year that rocked all our worlds. It was a year that changed our lives forever. On March 17th, 2020 - Keith and I were celebrating our anniversary- I say it’s the day I got lucky. It was also the day that the Governor decided to close retail establishments and ban travel. It was devastating news and catapulted our lives into a whole new direction. We found ourselves standing in the unknown/disbelief and questioning what we were to do next. As we stood there my phone rang…it was the call that no one wants to ever receive. It was a call from a doctor telling me my results came back and it was confirmed I have stage 4 Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. WHAT?!?! All on March 17th - St Patty’s Day - my luckiest day - I was devastated. The past 2 years has been consumed in survival mode with two rounds of cancer treatment, doctor visits every 3 months to Iowa City, and building back up to do what we love most - help people create memories through adventures, travel, connections and fun!

That day I am forever grateful and blessed for. That is the day our lives changed forever - FOR THE BETTER! That day stopped dead me dead in my tracks. It forced us to look at life differently and it allowed us to look at what is important and how we were human doings - not human beings. Today we are no longer in “survival mode”, we are now in “thriving mode!”

THANK YOU CANCER & COVID! Because of that day - we have been working to create, build, grow & pivot what we love into where we want our lives to go. We are so excited to share with you our next adventures and invite you along for the amazing journey ahead.

We can never thank you enough for all your love and support! YOU had unwavering kind hearts, understanding support and YOU have stood beside us, checked in on our health adventures, and continue to be patient as we GET BACK ON THE BUS! Meet my AMAZING WONDER GIRL BRENNA! Now when I tell you this girl is destined to do BIG things…I’m not kidding. She has been this light and inspiration from the first day she walked into my shop. She and her fab family hold a very special spot in my heart and whatever I can do to empower, support and be the change she envisions - I am here for her. And did I mention she’s in 6th grade?

More and more friends and families are dealing with the mental health crisis….not in some other country, not in some other state…HERE in Iowa and in our local communities. Something isn’t right, something needs to change. As I have said time and time again in this, “If we don’t change anything, we can’t change anything”.

When I think back about some statistics, it’s not terribly hard to see what has happened: in 2012, the majority of Americans had smart phones. By 2020, many children, as young as 8, had smart phones.

And that’s where her little mind started turning! She knew that this was not only something she wanted, but felt strongly that her friends needed a break from “all of the things”. After a few conversations, she had an idea. Then, she enlisted the help of a classmate with similar experiences and viewpoints, and they got to work. Since then, they’ve rallied the help of more friends and started a movement!

I am here to take a STAND with Brenna!

Sometimes you meet someone who steps onto the bus and it’s an instant connection. One of the perks of loving my travel business! When Jackie Allenbrand, who owns P.H.A.R.M. Dog USA, got on the bus with us I knew it was no coincidence! Not only is she my Soul Sista in finding FUN, but she’s probably one of the biggest hearted people you will ever meet. You must hear her laugh! She runs PHARM Dog USA and trains our Fab Four legged friends to assist and co-work with farmers who may need assistance.

So….just in time for the holidays she has launched her children’s book to not only bring awareness to this amazing organization, but to help raise money to support this amazing cause. You don’t have to be a kid to buy one…you just need to be a kid at heart, believe in the good in people, have a giving heart and of course LOVE our four legged friends!

I always say you may enter the bus as strangers, but you leave as Modville Tours Family. ❤️ This amazing, beautiful, caring, wonderful, wicked funny, inspiring, loving, big hearted joyous woman was the perfect example. Her husband Duane and best friends The Billings traveled with us on several adventures.

I’m am forever grateful the Fab Four got on the bus with us and are forever part of our memories, stories and photos.

THIS IS MY WHY!!! Life is Short - Make Memories - Travel - Adventure as we are never guaranteed tomorrow.

Adventure Travelers - Covid Disruptions:

Please check your email as we have sent out information regarding options for Covid related disruptions. We appreciate your patience as Covid has left a lot of unknowns as no businesses, venues, government or health organizations were prepared for it. Our trips are always non-refundable and as a small family business we are doing all we can to help everyone we can in need. We understand that everyone is in a state of “unknown” and with zero Covid relief from the government for travel industry we are stuck with tickets, reservations, etc for “future” travel. We are working through the process and offering 4 options which other travel agencies are not offering for travelers who did not get travel insurance. We are not the “big airlines” that got huge bail outs. We are just a small business trying to navigate this new “normal”. We feel the 4 options are very accommodating and offer options for our travelers. We are saddened that people are going after us publicly as a small business when we are working non stop to fight for refunds for our customers. Please review your email and hard copy mail that details options.

We did not cause Covid and sadly are not United Airlines or Carnival Cruises that got gov grant money. They are just now giving venues relief starting end of month which hopefully will trickle down to small businesses tour operators who are stuck with tickets, reservations and “future” use. Please see the link that was published a few weeks ago.

To read these comments/emails from a few travelers makes me sad for not only my business, but for my family and friends who stepped in over the past year to help us as I battle stage 4 cancer. I never thought fighting Covid/customers/the government would be harder than cancer - but it is. The remarks, negative reviews, etc. will tarnish our business forever and I only hope that travelers will find some grace in the situation to realize it’s a small business. It’s a family. It’s our livelihood and with no trips in a year we are doing all we can to fight for you. Thank you to those for responding with kindness, understanding and compassion as I’m just at a loss for words and exhausted from a year of fighting for “doing the right thing”.
