Ideal for equestrians and horse lovers alike, Horses & History in Aiken offers a glimpse into the magic that makes our community a Mecca for all things equine.

Instructor: Wm. Morgan ”Billy” Benton, a sixth generation Virginian, is from the small historic, equestrian town of Middleburg, in Upper Virginia. He and his wife, Jane Gunnell, also from Middleburg, are lifelong equestrians who have regularly taken part in several hunts in Aiken, Virginia & Maryland. In Aiken, Billy has been a Joint Master of the Edisto River Foxhounds and in 2011, Billy was awarded his Colors for his support and riding ability with the Aiken Hounds. He and Jane have owned a small horse farm, called “Banbury Cross”, in Aiken, for about 30 years where their retired hunters, race horses and polo ponies now live along with their world famous www.CarolinaDogs.com . Additionally, Billy is a polo player and polo match announcer. He has served as a Patrol Judge at various Steeplechase Races and has been Head Patrol Judge at the historic Queen’s Cup Steeplechase Races in Waxhaw, near Charlotte, NC, for many years.

Join Billy this Saturday at Stable View Farm to watch the "Aiken Opener" the first 3 Day Eventing Horse Trials of the 2023 Winter Season.There will also be a special arena dedication to Joannah Glass, who is responsible for estabilishing 3 Day Eventing Horse Trials here in Aiken, oh so many years ago.
Watch as World Class Equestrians compete for the opportunity to represent Team USA in International Competition. It should be a fun and entertaining morning. Please be sure to bring the kids, as they will be able to see young people competing on their horses.

🐴 Meet Billy at 8:00am on the corner of Laurens St. & South Boundary Ave. by Banksia's serpentine wall (the wavy wall) to walk into Hitchcock Woods together.

🐴 8:30am - the group will be at Memorial Gate if you would prefer to join in there

🐴 9:00am - The Blessing of the Hounds promptly begins

*Comfortable walking shoes & warm attire are highly recommended
