Our annual Shop with a First Responder was a great success. We were able to shop with 26 children and their families! Thanks to Walmart, generous donors, and first responders for helping children's holiday dreams come true. Santa might be close to 3,000 miles away at his North Pole workshop, but we saw his holiday spirit in Airway Heights.
The spirit of Christmas was alive as children in foster care experienced the annual Embrace Washington Santa Breakfast. The memorable event included breakfast, gifts, and a visit with Santa. The Airway Heights Police Department and the City of Airway Heights were honored to participate in this fantastic event for children in foster care.
We enjoyed ringing in the holiday season with the community during the Tree Lighting and fireworks show at Sunset Park. Thank you to the non-profit, CARES, and local sponsors.
🎄 Santa has finished traveling the streets of Airway Heights for tonight 🚨 Santa will be back next Tuesday and Wednesday 🎄 He will do his best to visit as many parts of Airway Heights as possible 🎄Please watch our page for updates 🚨
Cheney voters will decide this fall whether to approve a $72 million dollar school bond. The measure calls for a new school in Airway Heights to keep pace with the city’s increasing population.
Airway Heights is home to just one elementary school now. But here is the catch. Sunset Elementary is at 121% of its intended capacity, students are in portables, and some are bussed to other schools. Population growth estimates show no relief in sight.
“A quality education is important for our children and the community today and for the future,” said Airway Heights City Manager Albert Tripp. “An investment in the Cheney Public Schools bond this November will help ensure our children are prepared for the future.”
The bond also calls for renovations at the Cheney High Stadium, some of which will make it ADA-accessible. Elementary schools Salnave and Windsor are also slated for bus loops and kitchen improvements, and other schools’ heating and cooling systems are slated for overhauls.
The election is set for November. The bond requires a 60% yes vote to pass.
Twenty-three years have passed, but we will never forget those we lost on September 11, 2001.

On behalf of the entire Airway Heights Police Department, thank you for investing in our community and our future by supporting the recently approved public safety levy. The levy will allow us to add more officers, update technology and our patrol vehicle fleet, and focus on holding harmful drug traffickers accountable. We want our taxpayers to know that we will continue working with our community daily to improve public safety. This is your police department, and we are here to serve and protect you. Thank you for partnering with us to make a safer community. We are grateful for the support.
Our Airway Heights Police Officers are slammed. On average, one Officer handles 1,500 calls for service a year. That’s a 133 percent increase over the last five years. We are in desperate need of staffing. Help us fight lethal drug trafficking in our community. Learn more about the Public Safety Levy here: https://cawh.org/ontheballot/on-the-ballot/.
Airway Heights is one of the fastest-growing cities in Washington state. Calls for police service have increased by 133% in five years.
