Last month, while docked in St. Kitts, I noticed the ship next to us, the Azamara Onward. In comparison to the Explora II that I was sailing, size was very evident. (Don't let them tell you that size doesn't matter!)

I took a little time today to "do the math" for you. Math isn't one of my strong skills, so I am backing it up with a picture, because people say that is worth a thousand words. All these numbers!

I was curious about the capacity of one ship to the other because it was evident that the tonnage was vastly different.

The Azamara Onward has the capacity, when sailing full of 774 passengers and tonnage at 30,277. That seems like a nice ratio... until you compare it to the Explora II (or Explora I as they are sister ships)

The Explora II has the capacity of 922 passengers if fully booked and tonnage at 63,900. That is a difference of 148 passengers but double the ship size.

When I tell you that sailing on either of the ships, even at a full capacity, is like sailing on your own private yacht with a couple of your closest friends, I am not kidding.

We sailed at about half-full on our sailing and it was WONDERFUL. If you love the feeling of a small ship sailing because of the passenger count, then Explora Journeys gives you that with a TON of space to boot. While 922 is full capacity, their sweet spot is less than 750 passengers.

Sakura is such an amazing take on Asian cuisine. Traditional, yet inline with American traveler tastes. Wagu Beef Tataki anyone ? No up charge !!
