I have had the pleasure of knowing Ron Behrmann since 2001 when I first got into hot air ballooning; and he was involved in our sport long before me. He is currently running for a position on the Board of Directors for the BFA as our Southwest Region Representative, and I highly recommend him. He has the experience, integrity, and is as honest as they come. He will do a great job for all of us in this position. Below is his bio, and thank you for your vote.
My name is Ron Behrmann and I'm running for the Southwest Region Board position on the Balloon Federation of America Board of Directors. This is my 50th year in ballooning and my 40th year involved with the BFA. I know that the organization is financially viable at this time, but I want to help with the future.
I recently left a position as President and Executive Director of the New Mexico Arts & Crafts Fair after 13 years, one of the oldest and largest arts organizations in New Mexico. I wrote, applied, and oversaw various grants and sponsorships that funded that organization. I believe grants and sponsorships are the financial future to keep the BFA funded for years to come, and I have the experience to help.
I currently serve as the Vice President of Creative New Mexico, an arts advocacy group. I recently was appointed to the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum Board of Trustees by the current Mayor of Albuquerque.
Following are some of the highlights of my experience in ballooning:
• 1st balloon flight 50 years ago.
• Licensed pilot since 1979 with over 775 hours as private & commercial PIC (with zero accidents or injuries).
• Commercial pilot for Virgin Balloon Flights in Jordan and Morocco.
• I've flown in 21 states and 8 international countries.
• Co-Owner of B&B Ballooning.
• Dealer for Thunder & C**t Balloons, Tempest Fans, United, United Expressline and Haulmark Trailers, and commercial balloon rides.
• Provided at "no charge" 22 cover photos, 92 stories, and 520 inside photos to Ballooning Magazine. Since 1984 served at different times as Staff Photographer, Staff Writer, Contributing Editor, Contributing Photographer, National Correspondent for Ballooning Magazine.
• Provided at no charge 100's of photos to the National Balloon Museum in Indianola, Iowa.
• Provided at no charge 100's of photos to the Anderson Abruzzo International Balloon Museum in Albuquerque, NM
• Publicist and Team Manager for the Soukup-Thomas Balloon Fleet.
• Served as the Chief BFA Scoring Official in New Mexico from 1983-90. Served as the Chief Scoring Official for Top Gun, as well as Board Member of Top Gun.
• In 1997 I was awarded the BFA's highest honor, the Shields-Trauger Award.
• Official Photographer at the BFA National Championships in Baton Rouge, Middletown, and St. Jean sur Richelieu, Canada.
• I flew in the Championships as the only non-competitor to provide photographic documentation, with the permission of the late Jim Burk.
• Served as the Official Photographer of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for 13 years. In the mid 1980's I served on the AIBF Board of Directors, Assistant Media Director, Official AIBF Program Co-Producer, AIBF Calendar Contest Organizer and Calendar producer, and AIBF Photo Contest Organizer.
Thank you for your support.
