Alexandria Bay, NY – The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority proudly announces that Boldt Castle on Heart Island will for the first time ever be illuminated in red after dark on Tuesday, July 1, in observance of Canada Day. This display aligns with a statewide effort to recognize Canada Day, commemorating the country's founding in 1867 when three colonies united to form Canada.

The Boldt Facilities are owned and operated by the Authority, which operates the international Thousand Islands Bridge crossing between Alexandria Bay and Lansdowne, Ontario, in agreement with the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited, a Canadian Crown corporation. The Authority took ownership of Boldt Castle and related properties in 1977 and have invested more than $60 million into the restoration and preservation of the region’s premiere visitor attraction.

“The Thousand Islands Bridge, the Authority and its operations have long been the standard bearer for international collaboration in our region. We’ve proudly partnered for years with the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce to host fireworks displays to commemorate Independence Day and will do so again this year. We’re pleased to add the Canada Day illumination in recognition of our Canadian partners and visitors,” said Bill Moulton, Deputy Executive Director of the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority.

Boldt Castle is open to visitors seven days a week from Mother’s Day weekend through Columbus Day, offering guests the opportunity to explore one of the Thousand Islands’ most iconic landmarks. For detailed information on hours of operation, admission, and the fascinating history of the castle and its grounds, please visit www.boldtcastle.com.

The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) is defined by the New York State Public Authorities Law as a public benefit corporation. The Board of Directors are appointed by the Jefferson County, NY Board of Legislators and comprised of seven members for a term of five years. The TIBA Board is comprised of four US citizens and three Canadian citizens. The Authority is additionally a significant stakeholder and host to the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council, the destination marketing organization for the binational region.

JRECK Subs expands Winning Attitude award program to 26 schools for 2025

Celebrating Students Who Embody Positivity, Perseverance, and Community Spirit

SYRACUSE, NY – JRECK Subs, in partnership with Fresh Start Franchising, Inc., is proud to announce the continued growth of its Winning Attitude Award program for 2025. Now in its 22nd year, the initiative has expanded to include 11 additional schools, bringing the total to 26 high schools across the communities JRECK Subs serves.

Established by a group of local franchisees, the Winning Attitude Award recognizes graduating seniors who may not meet the traditional criteria for academic or athletic scholarships but who exemplify a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and resilience in the face of challenges. Recipients are selected by their schools and awarded a $500 scholarship, either as a single award or split between two deserving students.

“This program is at the heart of what JRECK Subs stands for—community, kindness, and opportunity,” said Bob Piddock, President of Fresh Start Franchising, Inc. “We at Team JRECK are pleased to be able to recognize these outstanding students.”
Founded in 1967 by five Carthage Central School teachers, JRECK Subs has always valued education and community involvement. The Winning Attitude Award continues that legacy by shining a spotlight on students who make a difference in their schools and neighborhoods—not just through achievement, but through attitude. The scholarships will be presented at the school's graduation event.

“We are excited to be reaching more students than ever before, and we look forward to continuing to expand this program in the future,” added Piddock. “By expanding this program to 12 new schools, we’re investing in the future of our communities and celebrating the values that matter most.”
