Alexandria Bay, NY – The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority proudly announces that Boldt Castle on Heart Island will for the first time ever be illuminated in red after dark on Tuesday, July 1, in observance of Canada Day. This display aligns with a statewide effort to recognize Canada Day, commemorating the country's founding in 1867 when three colonies united to form Canada.
The Boldt Facilities are owned and operated by the Authority, which operates the international Thousand Islands Bridge crossing between Alexandria Bay and Lansdowne, Ontario, in agreement with the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited, a Canadian Crown corporation. The Authority took ownership of Boldt Castle and related properties in 1977 and have invested more than $60 million into the restoration and preservation of the region’s premiere visitor attraction.
“The Thousand Islands Bridge, the Authority and its operations have long been the standard bearer for international collaboration in our region. We’ve proudly partnered for years with the Alexandria Bay Chamber of Commerce to host fireworks displays to commemorate Independence Day and will do so again this year. We’re pleased to add the Canada Day illumination in recognition of our Canadian partners and visitors,” said Bill Moulton, Deputy Executive Director of the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority.
Boldt Castle is open to visitors seven days a week from Mother’s Day weekend through Columbus Day, offering guests the opportunity to explore one of the Thousand Islands’ most iconic landmarks.
