Gilbane Building Company is working on the Tampa General Hospital Helicopter pad and it was amazing walking the site.

The summer heat is on, and with it comes the risk of dehydration on the job site. Dehydration can be a serious safety hazard in construction.
Dehydration occurs when your body loses more fluids than it takes in. This can happen through sweating, urination, and even breathing. Symptoms can range from mild thirst and fatigue to headaches, dizziness, and even muscle cramps. In severe cases, dehydration can lead to heat stroke, which is a medical emergency.
To keep cool, focused, and safe this summer, let's prioritize hydration! Here are some key tips:
*Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Aim for eight glasses as a baseline, but adjust based on activity level and weather conditions. Keep a reusable water bottle with you and refill it frequently.
*Take advantage of shade breaks. Schedule short breaks in shaded areas throughout the day to cool down and rehydrate.
*Consider sports drinks. Electrolytes lost through sweat can be replenished with sports drinks alongside water.
By staying hydrated, we can all work safely and efficiently this summer.

Proper hydration is crucial for various bodily functions, including regulating temperature, keeping joints lubricated, preventing infections, delivering nutrients to cells, and maintaining organ function.
The day encourages people to drink an adequate amount of water and other hydrating fluids. It also raises awareness about the signs of dehydration and the benefits of staying well-hydrated. National Hydration Day is particularly significant for athletes and individuals who engage in physical activities, as they are more prone to losing fluids through sweat and need to replenish them to maintain peak performance and prevent dehydration. National Hydration Day was created in honor of late football coach Victor Hawkins, who invented a special hydrating mouthguard to keep his players healthy on the field.
The observance of this day we've included tips on how to stay hydrated, such as setting reminders to drink water, consuming fruits and vegetables with high water content, and avoiding excessive consumption of dehydrating beverages like alcohol and caffeinated drinks.
