Alton Odyssey Tour's Prohibition Tour returns for its second season as Henchman Ivan Chiles (aka Kerry Miller) sneaks guests through Alton in a brightly colored shuttle bus. Rum runners, flappers, hotel maids and even a respectable brewmaster are all waiting to tell their side of the story. Vintage Voices and Alton Odyssey Tours partnered to bring characters of the Roaring Twenties to life. Based on documented accounts of Alton during Prohibition, it’s no wonder this area was “Wetter than the Mississippi.” Specially crafted cocktails of the era will be served Sat, July 13 at 3pm. Love a good history tour? Alton Odyssey Tours has brought back their Prohibition Tours for 2024! Dubbed the “wettest county in the country,” Madison County, IL was a haven for bootleggers, rum runners and speakeasies. Prior to prohibition, Americans drank an average of 7 gallons of alcohol a year- more than three times the current consumption!

Alton Odyssey is excited to announce their partnership with Vintage Voices to bring characters of the Roaring Twenties to life. You'll travel to locations affected by the death of John Barleycorn and meet some of the people most impacted by his demise. This tour includes stops at five different locations and concludes with a celebration to the end of prohibition with Prohibition Era cocktails during the tour! We are excited to announce our partnership with All Town, USA and the creation of our new podcast, Behind the Bricks! Our first season is set to release this fall, with episodes focusing on buildings here in Alton, IL.

Our mission with Behind the Bricks is to document and preserve “stories from the inside” and will bring our guest speakers back inside the buildings they once spent time in. Guest speakers are selected by finding individuals who truly know the real story behind the bricks that make up these places. Hearing the factual history, as well as the emotional and personal experiences through the lens of those who know these buildings best, will allow you to envision the life that took place inside these walls. Join us this fall for a listening experience that will ignite your imagination and bring you closer to the amazing history of our city and its buildings!
