Join us at Warford Activity Center, this Saturday, October 5th for a special edition of Mother & Son Adventures. Activities include Nerf Wars, archery tag, dodgeball, gaga ball, pumpkin carving, & pizza!

School is back in session, and we are thrilled to announce that our Homeschool at the Zoo (HATZ) program is returning, starting on September 20th. Bring your wild ones to join ours for another exciting season of learning and exploration.
HATZ provides a unique opportunity for homeschool students to engage with wildlife and nature through hands-on activities, educational presentations, and interactive experiences. Each session is designed to be both fun and educational, offering students a chance to deepen their understanding of the animal kingdom and the environment. This program is designed for children ages 6-12 years old and is a drop-off program! Parents are welcome to stay on premises, but we kindly ask that you do not accompany children during the program.
Here are the details for the upcoming session:
Start Date: September 20, 2024
Cost: $10 per session
Time: 10:00 am- 12:00 pm
Location: Amarillo Zoo, 700 Comanchero Trail

Join us November 2nd at Sam Houston Park for Dia de los Mu***os! This is a free event, open to the public featuring live performances, face painting, games, food trucks, and a Catrinas contest!

We ask that you bring a disposable photo of a loved one who has passed to put on our altar and honor their memory.

AMW is providing FREE microchipping every Saturday throughout October!

If your fur baby is not microchipped you can visit the shelter every Saturday throughout October to have them chipped. No appointment is necessary and only takes a few minutes.

Microchipping helps improve the chances of an owner being reunited with their pet. Allows for peace of mind if your pet gets lost you have an additional form of identification.

⏰ Saturday hours: 10 am - 5 pm

AMW Animal Welfare Officers will also be carrying extra microchips in their units and will be offering them free of charge to the owners of the pets that they meet while performing their regular duties.

The Amarillo Police need your help locating a missing teen. She is Azalea Sanaya Tharp, a black female and her birthday is 8-29-12. Azalea is 4'2" and weighs approximately 93 lbs. She has black hair with brown highlights and she wears clear frame glasses. She also takes daily medicine for severe asthma. When she left she was wearing the dress in the picture. She should also have the same backpack from the picture. The photo was taken just before she left. Azalea was Last seen in the 4200 block of SW 10th around 7:15pm.

Beware of the Celebrity AI Cash Grab

In a recent scam, cybercriminals posted a fake video of Elon Musk on YouTube, trying to trick you into handing over your money. Cybercriminals often use AI to impersonate celebrities so that they can spread misinformation or trick people into falling for their scams. This particular scam attempts to trick you into depositing your cryptocurrency into an online account.

In this scam, the cybercriminals used AI to create a fake video that looks and sounds like the real Elon Musk. The video contains a QR code, and the AI-generated Musk urges you to scan it. If you follow the instructions to scan the code, you will be directed to deposit money into an account with the promise of receiving a larger return for your investment. The catch is there is no return on your investment. Your funds are deposited right into the scammers’ pockets!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to an AI video scam:

• Be wary of any social media content that uses endorsements from celebrities, because celebrities can be impersonated online.

• Be cautious whenever you are prompted to enter financial information online. Only use official financial websites.

• No legitimate financial institution will guarantee a large return on a small investment. If the opportunity seems too good to be true, it usually is.
