🎉 A huge congratulations to Oak Island- Double Bayou VFD on their shiny new tanker! This incredible addition is going to be an invaluable asset to our community, ensuring our safety and peace of mind.

Thank you for your dedication and hard work in keeping us all safe.

Being a rural fire department is tough, one of the problems we encounter is lack of water. Whether a wildland fire or a structure fire, we need a continuous supply of water, set the record straight we have hydrants but they can sometimes be a great distance from the incident scene, we have to rely on water shuttles to help remedy this situation, The Oak Island - Double Bayou VFD is excited to announce that we have purchase and put in service, "Tanker 42"

Oak Island - Double Bayou VFD recently purchased a 1991 Volvo Tanker truck. This truck holds 4000 gallons of water, with a integrated pump it can and will be used as a tanker pumper.

We have several grant applications out waiting for approval to continue to upgrade our equipment.

Come visit us at our 50th anniversary at the 53rd Annual Turkey Shoot and see all the updated trucks we have added to our fleet.

Anahuac Masonic Lodge #995 AF & AM will generously be serving as a cooling center today for all of our citizens still without power — July 10, 2024 from 11AM - 4PM.

A few news items and updates related to Hurricane Beryl this morning:

◾Most Chambers County Offices have reopened as of this morning for normal operations. Please contact departments directly with questions related to hours of operation.
◾Chambers County Officials remain in close contact with Entergy and CenterPoint to monitor power outages.
◾The Chambers County Golf Course will remain closed through Friday, July 12 as employees work to repair damages sustained from Hurricane Beryl.
◾All Citizen's Collection Stations (Box Sites) are open without limit to trailer length for disaster-related trees and shrubs.

DUMPS OPEN in Winnie, Anahuac & Beach City!

Read the information below to make sure following guidelines.

Limited box sites are open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. No trailer-length limit for vegetative debris. All construction, fence and pier/bulkhead debris should be taken to the Landfill, which is also open today.

Chambers County Officials have been in constant contact with electricity providers regarding restoration timelines.

As of July 9 at 9 a.m., current outage numbers are:
- Entergy: 2,156
- Centerpoint: 7,836

Both energy providers have extra crews on hand and have begun repairs.

Safety is our number one priority. If you lose power, keep these tips in mind:
• Stay away from downed power lines and assume they are energized.
• Use your portable generator safely. DO NOT run it in enclosed spaces. Only connect your generator to the whole house if the connection was installed by a licensed electrician. This prevents back feed to the distribution system.
• Minimize opening refrigerator or freezer doors to keep food cold for longer.
• Please stay clear of line workers as they work to safely restore power.

Chambers County Judge Jimmy Sylvia has issued a disaster declaration in advance of Hurricane Beryl’s landfall later this evening.

Chambers County has established an Emergency Operations Center and is monitoring the weather closely. Residents are asked to contact the EOC with questions at 409-267-4500 and are reminded that 911 should be contacted for emergencies only.
