Sedge grasses are packed with protein, making them a critical energy source for bears as they rebuild strength after months of fasting during hibernation. In the early season, before salmon runs begin, sedges provide a reliable and abundant food source in coastal areas like on our Chinitna Bay bear viewing tour.

Happy Solstice and First Day of Winter! For Alaskans, this is a meaningful moment—a time to reflect on the longest night of the year and the gradual return of the light. Today, the sun rises at 10:14 AM and sets at 3:41 PM, offering just 5 hours, 27 minutes, and 45 seconds of daylight. It’s a fleeting glow, but it reminds us of the beauty of this season.

Starting tomorrow, each sunrise will bring a few more precious seconds of light as we journey toward longer days. In a place where winter shapes our way of life, this shift is a symbol of hope and renewal. Here’s to celebrating the changing seasons and the promise of brighter horizons!

We started a blog!

Embarking on a bear-viewing adventure in Alaska is an unforgettable experience, and capturing these impressive creatures in their natural habitat requires a mix of skill and the right photography gear. Choosing a camera and lens combination or a well equipped mobile phone for aviation assisted bear photography means balancing portability and weight, as well as ensuring durability for Alaska’s sometimes harsh weather conditions.
