First half day tour for winter was a success! Had a great time showing my guest around Anchorage and Portage Valley with a stop at the Conservation Center. Roadside Reindeer Dogs in the new Mini Hauler allowed for a warm lunch with a view! Limited tour dates available this holiday season.

Busy tour season so far! My last couple guests and tours left 5 star reviews! This season, I have added one way pick up and drop offs for my cruiser guests to/from Whittier and Seward. I still have a few openings this summer but they are filling very quickly!

Available:

June 29 - 30 (2 nights over the weekend only)
July 14 - 17
August 1 - 6
August 23 - September 11

We are closed for remodel mid September.

The Tour season is beginning!!! Seward Private Day trips reopen in May on Saturdays. Up to 3 adults comfortably, or 4 small adults/kids only.

Sundays will remain half day semi private 6 hour tours to the Wildlife Center, Portage Valley, and Girdwood.

Are you excited about this new program available through the Matsu Shelter?!!!

I did this at Kauai Humane Shelter a few years ago and took a shelter dog out for the day. We had a great time getting outside, pup cups, beach walk, and sniffing all of the things!

You cannot truly experience Alaska until you explore our trails with a dog! Just be sure to keep your furry companion on leash and under control at all times! This is The Last Frontier! We don’t want to lose our new friends out in the woods by themselves!

MSB AC&R is excited to share our upcoming Pilot Program - Matanuska Miles & Mutts! This program is aimed at community members helping us lower the overall FAS (fear/anxiety/stress) levels in our Shelter Pets by taking them on Field Trips!

Miles and Mutts is for Community Members looking to walk, hike, or adventure with adoptable shelter dogs. These field trips help shelter dogs manage kennel stress, burn off energy and get more exposure to potential adopters. It’s also great excuse to get out and have fun with a canine sidekick.

Dogs that are taken on outings as part of a shelter program are nearly always happier. Exercising releases endorphins that make a dog feel good and uses up energy that otherwise manifests itself as undesirable behavior such as pacing, barking and aggression. Not only is this great in the short term, but a happier and less hyperactive dog also has a better chance of finding a permanent home. A well exercised dog is far more likely to be on its best behavior when prospective owners are visiting.

• Pets are good for people.
• People are good for pets.
• When you get them together, everyone benefits.

Heads up, Anchorage visitors! We just received another 12” of snow the past 24 hrs making it to over 101” snow since October 1, 2023, the snowiest snowfall in a winter on record. This means that snow plow service and city plows are all working non stop to clear out the snow (driveways, residential streets, city streets, parking lots, and roofs). Please be patient and understand it takes time.

This also means, if you are renting a vehicle or getting an Uber/Lyft, be sure to get something with fairly high clearance and minimum AWD/4WD with good winter tires to make it on the residential and lesser traveled roads.

We hope you had an incredible holiday season this year! It was a full house for the holidays with both the upstairs apartment and downstairs Airbnb full! Obviously we had to make it extra special for our guests! Local tour for Anchorage things plus a NYE celebration bag (non alcoholic for all ages).

Thank you for an amazing 2023!! Looking forward to 2024!

My Airbnb guests last weekend arrived on our one sunny weather day, so I picked them up from the airport and we headed up to Denali Viewpoint South, about 2.5 hrs north of Anchorage. One of her bucketlist items was seeing Denali (the mountain, not the park) before they headed to Seward to catch their cruise. Mission accomplished! Have something you really really want to do or see? I run private half day and full day tours for my guests as well as Private Day trips to Seward in summer and half day trips to portage Valley and Girdwood from Fall through Winter on weekends. Let’s be very clear on this hot topic: Specific to our ONE Airbnb location. We cannot speak for others. We are all independently owned and operated. Under NO circumstances do we willingly want to see our guests in any type of inappropriate way. While we do have security cameras in common areas, they are clearly visible and marked. Why do we need them? They are for your protection and our protection. They confirm identity of registered guests, number of guests, and help deter unwanted guests. They also help answer questions like “how did the fence get broken?” or “why is the trash can knocked over with garbage everywhere?” Having video for the entryways and driveways allow playback review to see a young black bear culprit climbing over the neighbor fence and trash diving across the culdesac. It also helps deter wanted criminals from hiding out in the Airbnb from the Anchorage Police Department by their girlfriend. Or wondering what happened to the missing TV that ended up in an unregistered guest’s vehicle. Feel free to double check our Airbnb for hidden cameras. If you do find one, please let us know because we’d like to see it!
